How did I distort a quote from the owners manual about the required oil?
Please do tell. |

You just KEEP regurgitating reworded versions of your same, tiresome arguments.
My comment on the manual? Hmmm, I live in this-a-here lil hick town, see- n' all they had was that there fancy 5w30! lmao My arguing with you and my growing hatred toward you is in no way a reflection of dealing with REAL people. And you must remember- I was puposely overly nice, as in pm's I was tentatively assurerd that they would make me a deal on a used 2011 model. Sooooo I don't know where your fictional account of my personal dealings came from. But you're an ass and you're wrong, again. Now go praise your car in a nice pleasant thread so that I may spoil it in your own fashion. |

Back on subject-
I had a mechanically inclined friend in my car for a ride and he's ridden in it a good bit. He noted that in my garage and even out driving that the engine sounded quieter. The real inspiration was reading threads in brz/frs forums and they seemed to be liking the heavier stuff. A lot of those guys are running 5w40. With proper tire inflation, I should be doing even better on mpg's. Currently at an indicated 31 and some change. I'm still really excited to see my consumption results after 500 more miles or so. Of course, any time I try to be optimistic or even, god forbid, humorous, the detractors seem to line up to try and piss in my cornflakes. |

According to ASE (Automotive Society of Engineers) normal oil consumption for a gasoline automotive engine is 1 quart or less per every 1,200 miles. Hence the reason you should check your oil level at every fuel fill up like mentioned in the owners manual. Subaru follows the guidelines set by the ASE. |

Just google fr-s 5w40... I'm too busy closing down the shop atm. But I CAN provide links.
Mod- while I thank you for the info, they clearly (if you have followed the thread) botched the oil consumption test, and I didn't feel like driving an hour and a half back for them to "check it". I poured out 6.25 quarts a thousand miles later. Pretty sure that soa wouldn't qualify what they did as a real test. They said it "only" had saix quarts. I burned a quarter to a half a quart, and then drained it. So upwards of seven quarts *may* have been poured in. Plus- when the tech gave me my keys and informed me he'd purposely over-filled it, he said "oh, no one said it was a consumption test". |

i'm not afraid to try a 0w-30 in my car and i might next change, but i am not going to try a 5w-40. just depends on how my very limited consumption looks in another 5,000 miles, and a UOA |

Well- being that there aren't THAT many of the cars... My poin was, they're trying different weights, and yes, the 5w40 may be overkill, but several of them use it. I wasn't saying that I'm going to, but that 5w30 isn't so drastic as some folks would believe.
I'll get a link or two up in a bit. |

Reading that fr-s forum kinda makes me feel better about my impreza. Those fr-s guys are having quite a few issues. And they don't seem to be as die-hard fans of subaru, as they seem to hold back no criticisms of the car. And they don't have two permanent instigators/agitators when someone starts a thread about a complaint.

Here's a brz thread I found where different weights of oil are discussed.

So according to the brz manual, 5w30 is listed as being acceptable to use for high speed or heavy duty use.
I don't have a brz manual in front of me but I'm sure its available in pdf from a search. That would explain why lots of those guys seem to go with -30's. Seems like the discussions are a lot more "open" on other forums. Like I said, though, they don't have two perma-trolls. Still no dipstick movement. But I'm literally checking it almost every day. Think I'll wait a week before I check again. I think at the next oil change when I'm doing the brake fluid, transaxle, and engine oil, I may make a weekend of it and pull and possibly replace the sparkplugs. They're supposed to be replaced every 30k anyhow, and since florida is such a "severe driving" area, I may as well cut all my maintenance intervals down a bit. I just can't see going through pulling them and replacing them just to do it again 9k or 10k later. But I don't think I'll wait till 30k, I wanna see what the factory ones look like after all the oil consumption. |

I've read 30 and 60, and since I'm maintaining the hell out of it, I wanna see what they look like. May as well pop for some new ones while I'm at it.
My taking extreme measures to maintain the car is both to keep its resale/trade value up, and despite it all I still try to hold out hope that it doesn't continue to consume oil. Maybe if I personally make sure not to over-fill and run "severe duty" oil, everything will be ok. I'm HOPING like hell. |

I'm not sure how all of your measures would help. If I had the information in this thread I'd never buy your car. Given this it is more likely that no one is going to know how religiously you changed the oil or the spark plugs or anything. All they are going to see is how the car runs when they are about to buy it. They won't know it's burning oil from that.

Maybe you misunderstood me. I meant that maybe I'll STILL own the car so down the road maintenance will pay off. I was kinda referring to the weathertech mats, constant cleaning, seat covers, etc.
I haven't published the VIN, and the car is registered to my real name, so I don't understand how me ragging on the car and soa are going to hurt my resale/trade-in. If I do trade it, it will likely be at one of my bank's tent sales. I highly doubt they're nasioc members. |

what I find odd is that for not having oil consumption, certain elements seem to make this thread their personal mission in life. I find their motives very questionable and their zeal for agruing that new cars should continually consume oil is almost soa-like.
If I didn't have an oil burner, I wouldn't be trying to crap on someone who's clearly gotten the poopy end of the stick. I would use swear words but they seem to offend Zeeper on a religious level. |
