Default Misfire on cylinder 3

Hey everyone so earlier this year I cracked a ringland on cylinder 4 and had my engine rebuilt by a local Subaru specialist.

I had issues with my boost control after this and in the process of trying to fix the boost control I swapped to a tial ewg. I brought my car in and my tuner and engine builder said I didn't need a tune for the ewg. So they installed and and when I got it back the car ran terribly... So I brought it back in to get tuned and now I got it back it runs terribly and I have a misfire on cylinder 3.

Could a pull or two with an untuned ewg cause another piston failure? I have a built engine with forged internals. The engine should be still under warranty with the builder but I literally haven't driven the car hard at all since there have been so many issues with it. Could it maybe just be a bad coil pack?

If your tuner told you you don't need a tune with an external wastegate you need to run very far away, I doubt it did significant damage to ringlands with forged internals. I'd say check coil packs and spark plugs cause that's always been the problem when I've gotten the p0303

Well here is the dilemma I have is that my engine is warranted if I use this tuner.... What should I do?

And yes I am going to try to swap coils/ plugs

Also can you tune the electronic part of hybrid boost control with out the hybrid setup being connected, just the mbc? My engine builder didn't connect that before he was tuned but the tuner said all I need to to is setup the hybrid setup and it will work just fine. Thoughts on that statement?

Check your ocv valve as well. Iíve had a cylinder 3 misfire before, I changed plugs, swapped coils, nothing changed. I pulled the passenger side ocv valve and it was dirty, causing the car to idle terrible, and threw the misfire code.

Did it misfire while driving? The CEL light flashes while I'm driving as well.

If your CEL is flashing as opposed to being solid, it means stop driving and tow it to a mechanic.

Me friend drove it for 45 minutes. I'm not sure if it was flashing the whole time... Is that a really big deal?

Is a damaged engine a big deal?

Flashing CEL on most cars means a misfire is HAPPENING NOW!
Maybe a lazy injector, maybe a worn plug, maybe.........
Who pays for a toasted engine?

As to your tuner comments regarding "no tune for an EWG", while I'm an NA guy even this sounds REALLY WRONG.
List the tuner so others can stay away.....far, far away.......

Any questions?

IIRC yes it did flash while driving, sorry for the delayed reply.

So I had the car towed to the shop and he told me he had to replace all of the injectors. Note he isn't charging me for this.... Which is great but it makes be a bit suspicious since he probably could've charged me.

This is what he said
"And i changed just cylinder 3 and then cylinders 2 & 4 started doing it. So i changed those and then cyl 1 started to do it"

Doing it refers to misfiring.

What could cause this? Fuel contamination? Do I need a fuel flush?

Does this mean it is all now fixed?
Sounds like either the injectors were failing or maybe you got some bad gas. Just drive the car and burn off the old gas and don't buy cheap gas anymore ( if that is what you did ).

Did they re-tune for the EWG?
If not, what excuse are they giving you?

Yes apparently it's fixed. I haven't picked it up yet. And the ewg has been tuned for already. And I don't buy cheap gas. Always from a major, shell Exxon Chevron etc.

There had been some work done on the fuel tank as there was a gas smell coming from there. Perhaps some debris made it in there from when he worked on that.

Hopefully, you are all set now.

Just keep a lookout for the issue.
Hopefully, your fuel filter grabbed up any debris so that would no longer be an issue.

If it comes up again, could still be bad gas.
I used to go to the same reputable brand gas station. I had a similar issue pop up but it eventually cleared itself on the same tank of gas. Couldn't find an issue.

Next tank of gas, same station, same octane, it happened again.
Changed stations and the issue went away after burning up that bad tank of gas.

I got it back today after it was tuned and it ran great. Perhaps the injectors just went bad. They are over ten years old.
