I ordered a 2013 base SWP wrx from the dealership on 8/19. Got the VON that day and the dealer emailed me my VIN a couple days later 8/24. The dealer said i should be getting it by the end of september and when i called SOA they said 10/1 is when i should get it.

anyone have any thoughts on the Subaru cross bar set vs an aftermarket set such as Thule? Price is a pretty big difference. Thule being way more expensive. I have always had 3rd party racks and never the Subaru ones.

I got the OEM cross bars. Reason- I know the fitment will be perfect to the roof line and the shape is an airfoil which beats the Yakima round bars and Thule. You'll be paying a lot more for the Whispbars and the fitment may not be as good. Then I'm getting the Inno medium fairing because again, fitment is perfect. Finally, Yakima rack accessories for the bike and snowboards. Yes, I did a lot of homework on the forums. My 2 cents.

This is EXACTLY the route I went some time ago and I'm totally happy with it. The OEM bars are admittedly more flexible than the Thule or the such, but they have never let me down and I've hauled many things on them, including dressers, beds, you name it. I like the look way better too. The medium Inno fairing doesn't do much for sound reduction but it looks great. This is a solid choice! I also use the Yakima/Subaru snowboard clips. They're perfect!

I already have a Yakima Big Powderhound with mighty mounts from my old Xterra, do you know if that's all I need to connect to the Subaru OEM rack?

Man...all you guys are getting VINs and ETAs already.

I preordered on 8/9 and just called SOA - "Still not released, no VIN. ETA Novemeber."

Eh, back to waiting I suppose.

Some customer cars got lucky and will sneak into the Sept-October Allocation. But most orders will start showing up around Nov-December time frame.

After reading this and it being a quiet day at work I thought I'd give calling Subaru of America a try to see if they could look me up and find a VON for me.

I ordered my 2013 WRX Limited w/nav and short throw/auto dim mirror on 8/11/12 (Probably officially went in on the 15th) and didn't really expect to have a VON number yet givin only 2 weeks but he was able to look it up and give it to me. It was however too early for him to give me an ETA. But he did say in a general sense 10-12 weeks.

And living in Boston is helpful as the Subaru's port about 1 mile from my house and I drive over the bridge and look down on them in the car port every day on the way to work. So there won't be much extra time tacked onto the delivery date to pickup.

The VON is actually spit out as soon as the system accepts your order. I got mine the same day my order was placed. Now the VIN is a completely different animal. The '14 models may be released by the time I see my VIN.

I don't know if I could handle living a mile from port. I would be out there every day with binoculars. Probably get arrested.

Don't give me any idea with the binoculars lol!

I got burned back in Aug 2002 when I ordered a first model year 2003 Nissan 350z and after nearly 2 months and not hearing anything from the dealership I called them and they said my order has not been placed yet because they ran out of allotments and they didn't tell me. I flipped out, got my deposit back and bought one off the lot of a different dealership the following weekend. So for me, having that VON number is golden. It means the wheels have begun turning.

If you do get out there with binoculars, let me know if you see a black limited hatch getting sts and spt installed...

I'm assuming if the car shows as "Vehicle in Transit" on the dealers site, and the dealer already knows what options the car is coming with, the car is already made? Let me rephrase, the options/accessories are already on the car? The one I'm about to put money down on has the Vortex Generator, which I don't really care for. Anyone know if it's easy to remove? Adhesive I assume?

Don't even worry about that until you get a VIN. Your VIN comes when it gets "scheduled". Then it is "completed" (accessories put on). THEN it is "released". Here's the thing. Depending on where you are, it might get released to the Rail company first. That takes a while to get to the location they offload it to the trucking company. So, "released" is a good sign if it goes straight to the trucking company, but there will be additional wait if it was released to the rail company first.

Sorry I don't know about that one. Yakima's website does have a fitment guide. Or you could try emailing them.

Once the car appears on a dealers public site as "in transit" it already has a VIN#. However, there is about a week or two (depending on port) where the dealer could still call SoA and have accessories modified if it is yet to arrive at the port.

Yes the Vortex thingie is just adhesive. A good heat gun or a sunny day and you should be able to peel it off. Removing the adhesive from the paint is a whole other ball game though.

I would ask the dealer to try and email SoA distribution and have the stuff removed if it is early enough.

They CANNOT be posted publicly or my job is at stake. Whatever happens in emails/PM is not my problem. *wink*

Thank you so much.

Im proud to say I have a SWP base WRX on order with R & G Subaru in Detroit Lakes MN. $24,754 Couldn't find it cheaper anywhere close to me.

Couple questions I have. If I for some reason want to change my color, how long do I have to change it. I ordered it 8-28-12.

Any options people suggest?
