im not sure about now, but when i had it as one of the first mods in the summer, im not sure if it was heatsoak, but it felt very hesitant. it would bog and feel very slow low-end and most of the time topend too. i took it out and felt more power immediately.

but when i got my car tuned, it defintely helped out than. so i just recommend you to save ur money for a utec or a tbe, if u havent got it already.

I just used a K&N drop in filter and pulled out all the extra tubbing on the intake. Works good enough for me. Plus AP does not support a aftermarket intake on stage 1.

if this is your first mod, im going to recommend that you opt for a tune of some kind. ECUTEK or Utec, or whatever you want. especially cause u live in a hotter part of the globe. trust me, your suby would thank you for it, if it had a CEL code for it.

if you have a tune already, id say go for it. K&N is what i would get for intake. get a nice TBE of some kind.

go ballz-deep, and get the K&N, and an Invidia catless TBE system. your car will make the kind of sound that mothers body-shield their children from when you rev it.

Dave's shortest non-flaming response (that actually answers the original question)

Anyway, just remember that whatever you go with can later impact what IC upgrade options you may want. BTW I went with the Injen CAI and I am very happy with it still.

The sound is nice for about 2 days. Then it's obnoxious.

I heard that the hp gain with a tune is minimal if any, and that the stock "ram" air-box can support up to 400hp at the wheels without causing a bottleneck in power so from that there are a lot of better ways to spend $ for a 1st mod.

I say no. I had it, my car didn't run as good and I was slower at the track. It did sound good though.

Get it, I have it and love it. The memebers on iwsti.com have put in some time to get it on a dyno and it has shown an increase in power.

Nope just repeating what my local shop has told me. Most people are too dyno-queenish to risk 5hp so will spend 200 bucks for it. But when I get an sz49 this spring I will have stock airbox with green panel filter close to 400 at the wheels hopefully. I have a little over 300/300 with high flow cat and stock air box with nothing gutted and I haven't seen many people get much bigger #s than that from when they have an intake.

I still believe (not that I am an expert) that the stock intake is too much of a restriction and causes higher cylinder pressure which can lead to a shortened engine life. Stock airbox on a moderately to highly modded STi is just a bad idea IMO.

I recently installed an APS CAI and the car definitely pulls harder, especially now that the weather is fairly cold. IMO a cold air is better than the K&N (or any other shortram) because even with the heatshield, it will suck hot air from under the hood. these motors run very hot so it's best to draw air from outside the engine compartment. the APS CAI has been shown to return to ambient temp. after a hard run in mere seconds if fed by some sort of ducting. I plan on using a brake duct to feed air into the fender well when the weather warms up in the spring.

I just got back from a tuning session. My car had bad fuel, so I couldn't get tuned. I will have to go back.
I have been thinking about getting the Typhoon intake then getting protuned. The main concern I have is boost creep. Will this intake make me boost creep? Also will I even make any power after the tune? I live in a cold climate(CT), so as it gets colder I'm thinking it might creep.
So far I have a TXS turboback with high flow cat and magnaflow muffler.
Thanks

the intake won't cause creep, and you should be ok as you have a high flow cat. I have just a little bit of creep in cold weather with my catted APS exhaust but nothing major, I have never hit fuel cut.

whats your reasoning behind this? i can guarentee you that your car will run better with a tune+intake or just a tune, rather than just an intake..

about the stock-air-box idea... i would agree with keeping the stock airbox if this was going to be the only mod. if you have your heart set on another 12hp, then go ahead. but I would only do the intake if i was doing some tuning, and increasing boost, this is just my opinion though.

just throwing on an intake, and hoping for the best, isnt the best way to mod your car.

i must be confused by your previous post, yea i agree with you getting a intake and getting it tuned with the intake is a good idea.
