Isn't the point of a WRX hood scoop to provide airflow to a top mount intercooler...which I'm assuming you don't have?

Nope, do not have. But it would be similar to a CIA without the risk ok sucking up water or extra dirt and dust, and I'm BORED!!!

Well i have been looking for a WRX hood without much luck(want to purchase locally). And since I am getting the scoop for free it might as well try to fab it together. Also if I totally kill the hood, I can just buy a new one like you were suggesting.

the hoods to have a slightly different shape (not in fitment, but the indentation on yours is were the scoop is on a WRX due to lack of IC) (at least I think) and this could cause an issue , but I say go for it! Yeah, yourll get crap for a non-functional hood scoop (which it essentially will be), but hey, sounds like a fun little project.

I think it can work with a little tough love

The the indent in the hood is the same, but the contures are different(between 04 and 06) so it may not even be worth trying. I am not looking to trash my hood if i don't think it will work.

If it reduces my intake temps by 10 degrees that would be enough for me!

Like i said I am mostly bored!!!

Give him a break. The older Outbacks and Outback Sports and Turbo Legacys all had hood scoops with out TMIC. It was Japan's joke on us denying us the turbo car and rubbing it in by giving us a non-functional hood scoop.

I was working on a outback for a friend and I was wondering why someone with a wrx wouldn't use the hood. The vents on the hood once made functional would help with underhood temps wouldn't it? Or have peeps done this before and it just wasn't worth it?

Believe me, I'm not flaming at all. I just am wondering why someone would go through all the trouble to modify his hood (most likely hacking up his hood in the process) just to have a scoop that's not going to be all that benefical?

You have a N/A car, your underhood temperatures (especially in Alaska) are not going to be that significant anyway. If you're that worried about performance and getting the best performance from your engine, get a CAI.

Now are the older Outbacks and Legacy's scoops actually flow-through, or are they blocked like Mustang hoods and just have black plastic in the "scoop?"

I am not worried about the best performance. i am worried about being entertained for a while. and a CIA will give me a whole 20 minutes of pleasure while this will need alot mroe time than that.

^^ 50 HP?? thats weak! i would think this would give at least 90 - 110 WHP boost for sure! haha

well like i said, go for it! as someone else mentioned, older OBS's and RS's pre 02 had NF hood scoops. My buddy has an 01 RS, and opened up his scoop with a SRI intake and said he liked it much better than a CAI for the reason of avoiding all the crap on the road in winter and such.

DO IT DO IT DO IT!

Really?

Why not run a vented hood? They look better and are functional.

You ever seen ricers around town? You know, the ones who look like idiots with the huge wings, loud ass fart cans, mismatched wheels, unpainted bodykits, etc?

If they woulda listened to people that had taste they wouldn't exist.

I really hate the, "let the people do what they want" comment. If they can't handle other people's constructive critcisms, then they need to not post on the internet.

And I highly doubt it'll cost nothing to hack up his hood to make a scoop fit. You're not going to just cut a hole and WALLAH --- a stock-looking hoodscoop --- without some time and money into it.

Unless, you make it look like garbage. But if you went that far, you probably wouldn't care.

OEM parts dont really scream RICE to me...just personal opinion... yeah its non functional, but its not something that he is putting on there to have others look at thing how "neat-o his whip" is either.

I agree that he shouldnt post ANYTHING without expecting at least 12 differnt views on it, both good and bad. thats a general principle.

i wouldnt do this mod on mine, but isn't it ultimatly his choice? and if its something that he is stoked about then I dont think anyone on here should bring him down about it. this doesnt seem to be a super lame tripple decker fin status mod, so no harm IMO.

But hey, i think the OP was looking more for advice about HOW to do the install, not If he should do the install... off topic FTW!

I like the way scoops look if you're not rockin a FMIC. It used to bother me that my RS had a scoop for no real reason. It taunts me, like, "You know you're foolin' without that TMIC." *sigh*

Question: Is it possible at all for the integrity of the hood to be compromised if a hood is installed incorrectly? An abnormal split or a wobbly hood? Never heard of such a thing, but I think it's pertinent information.

Personally, I don't think that particular scoop will look that good on your car. However, I think we each deserve our own adventure (i.e. my RS has crappy headlights and taillights, and I used to rock a Spider-Man 3 Venom license plate on the front. I thought it looked sick at the time...).

So what's the point of a hood scoop on a car that doesn't need one?

Why would you do it if it wasn't for looks?

I think he already has a general idea how he's going to do it. What's wrong with people telling him to forgo it and save his stock hood?

Don't do it.

Find someone with a WRX hood running a FMIC that wants to trade. That way, both hoods go undamaged.
