2001 Impreza L swap questions
I have a 2001 Impreza L. It needs head gaskets so I've decided to just replace the motor. If I got a Stage II 2.5L would it just drop in, bolt up, and everything connect and work right as if it still had the 2.2L? or what would I have to do/change to make it work? I tried looking at some FAQs and in the stickys but most people were swapping from an older car with a 1.8L. I couldn't find anything on an '01 2.2L to 2.5L swap.

Yes it would be a plug and play swap u would just want to retain your ej22 intake manifold and bolt it up to the ej25 longblock....would also need a dual port exhaust manifold

So all the wiring and everything will just plug in on the 2.5L? I'll just need a 2.5L ECU right? Why do I have to swap the intake and exhaust manifolds? What's different about them that make's them not work?

I'm running the same phase II 2.5L with the stock 2.2L ECU in my '99 Impreza Outback Wagon.
All the wiring is identical - even the injector part numbers were the same. Is your car an automatic or manual? I even used the 2.5L intake manifold. It was identical to my 2.2L. I did switch to a dual port exhaust manifold (again no big deal). PM me for details or questions regarding this swap. It's been my daily driver for about 4 months now and I'm really impressed with it. |

My car is a manual which makes it easier. Thanks a lot for the info.
