I've just been eyeballing the alignment as I did all of those things, and that actually worked out reasonably well. The car tracked straight and tire wear wasn't too bad.

I got not quite 18k miles out of the Indy 500s. Would've gotten a bit more, but toe wear was killing two of them, so I had to retire them a bit early. Hopefully having a proper alignment (with toe zero'd out nicely) will help the Federals have a healthy life.

Cool Fixed up the STI

My son is borrowing the STI while his Mazda3 is getting rear-end accident damage fixed (6 weeks to repair ), so I spent yesterday evening and today under the car to fix up some leftover issues:

- Fixed oil leak on AVCS solenoid, chasing the threads on one bolt that had two threads galled and cleaned out the bolt hole with a tap.
(HUGE THANKS to AndrewTech for helping troubleshoot the leak from pictures I took and for having the $5 gasket in stock )
- Primed and painted some rush spots on oil pan and engine compartment
- Changed the oil and filter
- Took off Autocross tires (Azenis RT615K) and put regular summers on
- Replaced passenger side turn signal bulb
(Subaru - could you possibly make it any harder to change these bulbs ???)
- Straightened lower radiator mount tabs and re-installed light bar after getting it powder coated
- Trimmed the 3/16" Al skid plate to clear the light bar and now-straight radiator mounts.
- Re-installed diff protector, which is a PITA get onto the diff mounting bolts

Still need to adjust the clutch switches to fix HSA but that may not happen before he leaves.

I'm going to miss the loud boxer rumble but I may put the Azenis on the Tesla3 for autocross - with the Prius stock tires on the Tesla, it's completely lame in autocross; just can't turn with real street tires.

- Over the weekend hit up the Mt. Airy Crazy Ray's for an assortment of Subie parts. Got some optional (aka JDM) extended door handles for the Legacy's front door cards, an optional (aka JDM) SF Forester grill, a '95/96 Legacy 140mph speedo, and 2 SF Forester leather parking brake handles (which also fit BD/BG Legacys).

- Adjusted the clutch cable on the '96 Impreza today after work. Pedal felt high today. Not sure if it's been gradually changing and I just finally noticed, or if the adjusting nuts on the clutch cable somehow worked loose today and caused the pedal to change? We'll see how it feels tomorrow.
- Vacuumed the interior of the Impreza for the first time in, um, forever?
- Tore a nice hole in the outer side bolster of the driver seat as I slid into the car. Back pocket button caught a small wear hole on the bolster and turned said small hole into a ~3" long tear. I "fixed" it with some safety pins for now, not sure what my path ahead will be. That bolster has been repaired by an upholstery shop once before, the fabric is just thin with wear and sun exposure, so I'm not sure there's much "meat" left to try to fix it again.


You can see the denim material underneath from my previous seat foam repairs.

- Rolled 230,000 miles on the '96 Impreza this weekend. Not sure where I've been driving so much over the past 6 weeks, but that's 2000 miles since Aug 7th. I guess that only works out to ~16k miles in a year, so that's not that crazy, just seemed like a lot when I first looked at it.

- Got started on installing the extended door pulls for the front doors of my '97 Legacy. It takes some modification to the plastic panel that surrounds the power window and lock switches. The '95-97 Legacys had slightly different panels, without the power lock switch next to the window switch, so I have to modify my switch panels (I have '99 door cards in the car) to get the door pulls to fit.

Here's a comparison of the driver side switch panel covers; I haven't started cutting away at the driver side one yet. It looks like it should be simple, but the shape of the panel is pretty complex, which makes it harder to line them up next to each other and cut my panel to match.




- Hit up the Jessup Crazy Ray's on Saturday to grab yet more Subie bits. I grabbed the passenger front seat out of an '01 2.5RS so I can use the less-worn seat cover (and maybe seat foam, too) to fix up my driver seat. Also got some EJ25D cam sprockets (Outfront Motorsports buys them) and some fake wood interior trim from a 1st gen Outback Limited (for some reason some people on the FB love that crap).

Pulled the driver seat out of the Impreza and put one of the Recaro SEs out of the Legacy in. Now I can pull apart the driver seat and the junkyard seat to make a good driver seat.

Took my 01 to LKQ yesterday. 310k isn't bad, drivetrain is still good but it's going through alternators and batteries and the hatch wouldn't open anymore

Default I droped my first transmission

Never in my wildest dreams that I thought I would drop my wrx transmission pretty much by my self just need help getting it loose . I was really amazed how easy it was I think it took me long putting the other transmission back in lol cause I was like **** did I put this back in plug this up lol. . I wish I new how to add pictures on here from mobile lol.. ohh and I was using a lift on base
