But as someone mentioned earlier in the thread domestic OEMs seem pretty aftermarket friendly, Ford in particular, but I can see a work around for this "issue." OEMs and aftermarket have been leapfrogging one another for decades.
It's not that simple. Getting a copy of the database will give you signals and messages. Won't tell you how to use them or create them. Protection value calculations are pretty ridiculous. You need to know which bits get shifted how far and then how to add them together.

Piggyback, maybe. The comment was "replacement" and the intricacies of the OEM software and hardware make it hard to copy and replace. It'd require someone to break legal agreements.

Yes and if I recall correctly, they were being pretty big braggarts about it being uncrackable.

I’m somewhat excited about it. Performance wise, I’m sure it’s going to be the best bang for your buck, but I’m not sure if I’m sold on the looks, from the camo cars and the renders I’ve seen based on the camo cars.

If I like the way it looks, I will probably be picking one up though.

I'm definitely excited about it. I'm actually open to this or a C6 or C7 project. Right now I'm leaning toward a C6 Z06 project.

I remember not being very receptive to the C6 but ended really liking it, and I thought the C7 was atrocious but love it now, so I'm much more open minding about the C8.

C6 I always thought looked good (exterior). The c7 I thought look great now I think itís kinda dated and not that great. The c7 was a mild consideration before I bought the M2 but I still feel like itís either a dedicated track car or old man street cruiser.

I’m somewhat excited about the C8. It better look good though. I thought the C8R camo car looked awesome. Then the normal C8 camo cars showed up and I was disappointed. The renders based on those didn’t look good to me either.

However, some of the latest camo cars have started losing some padding and I feel like it’s nudged it in a better direction.

Hopefully when fully revealed it looks great.

See that's the thing I prefer the C6 exterior but when you sit in it and look out it's a bit of coffin for me at 6'2. C7 fits like a glove. I'm very comfortable in it, and the fit /finish is better than my Holden while the C6 is not even close.

I guess I'm stuck between (pretend) track car guy and old man street cruiser.

That actually doesn't make me as upset as I was expecting. It looks pretty faithful to the C&D renderings, and as long as it ends up with the proportions C&D has as well as the less angular front C&D "imagined" I'll be happy.

What I don't want is a super long looking supercar. 458 profile > ugly long ass near-truck-bed-proportioned zonda.

Every one I've seen has struck me as being rather long, but most have been out driving around the proving grounds or parked next to other Corvettes. I've not seen one parked next to a truck or even a normal sized sedan. Hard to tell if it's actually long or just looks long because it's a sports car and lacks height.

Because you think it looks good and that makes Bob Lutz wrong, or because Bob Lutz is still right?

That rear end is not very pleasing IMHO. Also, WTF is with those exhaust tips? Seriously? At least those can be changed easily.

It's busy and I get what they're trying to do with the lines and shapes but it's.. dunno. Take the NSX for example. That rear is so clean almost too clean. The NSX is just a tidy and we'll proportioned car.

It looks like C&D nailed it, at least on the rear end

At least it's not a center exit exhaust. So it has that going for it.

I'd guess shockingly cheap for what it is, but still a lot more than a current Corvette.

So if they don't maintain a two-model Corvette lineup (FR and MR) then I'll be certain that this whole C8 mid-engine thing was some millennial executives' ploy to troll the boomers.

The livestream, scheduled for July 18 at 7:30 p.m. PT, will be shared on a special GM media website (no login required) and throughout Chevrolet's various social media outlets. While the actual unveiling event isn't for the public to attend, GM is planning on taking its new technological terror on a tour of Chevy dealers across the US.
There was a really clear picture of the blue car posted on various sites last night, and this morning all traces of it are gone. GM's legal department is really good.
