Default Flashed ECU Key Pairing

Hey guys,

I've run into an issue that I haven't been able to find answers to. I bought a used 15 CVT WRX and it only came with one key. I bought a spare but had not had time to get it paired with the car when I lost the original.

The car was towed to the dealer which sent the immobilizer out for reprogramming. Upon reassembling the component they're unable to pair keys still. The process dies in the middle of pairing. Their next step is to replace the ECU itself.

Being I bought the car used I'm not sure if the previous owner flashed it or not. Has anyone ever flashed their car and then had issues pairing keys?

Odd problem/situation that I don't expect many to have encountered.

Any help would be appreciated!

I have an 09 so it might be different, but I've flashed variations of my tune a lot. Then had the dealer pair a new key (similar to you, i only had one and wanted a spare). They were able to do it just fine.
