Default Hybrid 2.5L short block build Q's

I'm looking to build a hybrid motor due to some unfortunate motor problem.

Car is 2005 WRX originally with EJ20
I'm looking to do the following

Bottom end 2.5L short block swap.
deautchwerks 750 cc injector or PE 800 cc injector
Walbro 255 fuel pump
ARC FMIC
and some sort of short ram intake. (HKS SMF Maybe....)
Tuning will be either ecutek or ap street tuner.
The car still be using the stock EJ20 top end stock and 5MT Transmission. (yes i know i know i already did all the reading in regards to weakness of the transmission)

Turbo in consideration
FP Green 8cm - 2.4" inlet internal waste gate
Deadbolt 20G / TD05 8cm
Blouch 20G / TD05 (Should be same or similar to deadbolt setup)

Any suggestion to the setup? am i missing anything?

Make sure there hasn't been any damage to the heads. Are you building it yourself or trusting it to a shop?

Forgot to ask, why are you shelling out big money for an ARC FMIC but leaving the tranny alone?

Build your heads. Look at any hybrid dyno chart and see why, it's like throwing a rock over a cliff.

At least new cams. Wrx cams will not support your turbo.
I used sti cams and modded them(get a machinist to plug 4 holes on end of intake cam)

I used cometic .051 to adjust compression of sti shortblock. ride5000 will be right behind me talking about "squish". I chose to have the right compression instead of right "squish" and you should too as long as you're running a bigger turbo.

Arp studs.

Are you going with a "built" shortblock (Crawford, cosworth, etc) or just a stock Subaru STi block?
Forged Pistons?
STi oil pan, oil pickup, STi dipstick? Are you going to run headers because some require the STi pan for clearance.
Timing Belt....
Cams, valves & valvetrain?
The list can go on and on......
New oil pump and water pump?
You may also need a Perrin big MAF intake...
Mine did in order to properly tune it with ECUtek.

stock exhaust manifold.
stock EJ20 top end (cams, valves etc)
Cosworth oil pump and sti water pump

You might be on a buget, but I recomened you swap in some cams or port your EJ20 heads. You'll see more power and quicker spoolup for your turbo, I recomened Kelford cams I heard good things about there cams

With the amount of power i'm planning to put down (280-350 whp)
Cams seems to be a very expensive investment to get that extra few gain in spoolup. (around $800-1000)
I'm trying to stay within a budget but build a reliable daily driven and weekend track warrior motor.

For now i'm staying with the 5 speed.
Budget reasons.
In the future i willl upgrade to PPG or 6 speed.

What turbo are you thinking about to make 400 whp?

Tom
that's a good choice.
GT30R is definitely a good turbo.
I didn't want to change to rotated setup (budget reason)
I think FP Green or Deadbolt TD05/20G will satisfy my need.
I'm looking for fast spool, linear power (around 300 whp).

Alright so i got my EJ257 shortblock installed with all the original EJ20 components.
The car is untuned right now, just cobb stage 2 (EJ20)
The car has a very rough idle.
Any insight on this?
i know i definitely need a tune for the ecu to properly run the ej257
Could the rough idle cause by something else?

Sounds like mapping to me.

Run what ever map you had for the 2.0, as fueling requirements are the same for the 2.5 as long as you stay out of boost.

I'm thinking of doing a similar hybrid. What machine work did you do on the EJ20 head? What head gasket did you use?
