Hey guys I recently took out my Pioneer deh-p690UB from my old lexus that had a stock amp w/ premier sound. I was told that the lex needed to be completely rewired due to the amp that was "in" the pioneer deck...I have an 04 WRX now and I am looking to put this deck into the subie. Am I going to run into that same problem? Or can I grab a wiring harness for a subie and I am good to go? Thanks for the help.

Looked up the subie wiring harness on Circuitcity.com and it said I would need two wiring harnesses to complete the intall...true?

As far as I know, you should be able to grab a Subie harness and wire it up. I'm not familiar with Lexus's and the only thing I can think of is that it's stock system had an amplifier and needed low level inputs from the deck. Unless the 04 is different the metra harness number is 70-8901 (single piece).

The head unit should have its own fuse. No extra fuse should be necessary.

Followed the tutroial and somewhere during my install, my dome lights, clock, alarm all stopped working. im unsure of what i did wrong, i just plugged the subaru harness in and attached all the wires from the HU harness and now they are all dead. I checked every fuse and all where good.

One thing i had to do to get power to the head unit was run the power wire from the HU to the accessory wire on the harness becuz it wasnt recieving power, could it be overloading the circuit? The radio and amp, etc. work but no dome lights, clock, or alarm. =[ help!

you should just need to run the yellow power cables together, and don't forget the red ignition wire (i think its red). If you don't, the radio won't get power when you turn the car on. I just put a sony HU in my 05 impreza with no real problems. I did have my accessory wire hooked up to the ATT wire, which made the radio ATT whenever i turned off my headlights though lol. You can just unhook the acc cable, no need for it with the aftermarket radio i guess. at least not on mine

One problem I am having though is that the climate control/HU panel does not fit around the new radio. Anyone have a suggestion on how to cut out a little bit of the space so i can get it in? I'm tryin a dremmel, but its a weird angle because the dremmels a little too long to get in there right. Plus the corners are proving to be difficult

This is just a guess, but your clock/dome power issue might be related to the constant power wire (yellow on harness) not providing 12VDC (don't have a schematic so I'm not positive). Do you have power on both sides of the fuse for the clock/dome light?

If you use the accessory wire only for power, the memory on the deck will clear every time the car is shut off.

Is there a 3.5mm jack or RCA jacks on the back of the original stereo? I was thinking of trying to run a plug for an mp3 player to an aux jack on the existing stereo if one is there. Hate to take everything apart if it wouldn't work anyway. Thanks.

Here's a thread with information on the stock head unit.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=749402

As far as I know there are no RCA's or 3.5mm jacks on the stock unit.

I'd like to thank you for posting this, it helped tremendously when I put my stereo in tonight.

The one tip I'd like to tell others trying to get the upper bezel off:

There are 2 very easy to pop clips in the middle, represented by yellow dots:

Then, the hard part is getting the top 2 clips out. I tried using quite a bit of force, but couldn't get them without possibly breaking the plastic. In the end I took a long screwdriver, stuck it straight up, behind the bezel, and pried so that the force of the screwdriver tip was right NEXT to the top 2 clips (shown as red dots) and made a force towards my face. Also, the top 2 clips are male on the bezel, which fit snuugly into the female holes on the dash itself, so you should be popping the bezel off straight towards you.

That was the one hiccup I had, not knowing exactly how the final clips were, since we are told to carefully wiggle them, and they are in there TIGHT, so a screwdriver behind it did the trick

I just got my first Subaru on 9/10/10.

2005 Impreza 2.5 RS
4dr WGN
Auto

I want to install either
Jensen VM9214 or VM9424

I am not sure if my Impreza will take a 7 inch wide HD. any clairification on it would help. My current is 2in Heigh and around 6 1/2 ish long (it does have the lil holder underneath that from many other how to's (this one, the 06 wrx one and the wrx carputer) i can tell can be removed to fit a 4in heigh HD

thanks.

Glad this writeup was helpful to you guys. I took a look on the Crutchfield site and it indicated that the Jensen VM9214 and VM9224 both fit in the '05 RS. Congrats on the new Subey.

IIRC, yes, the remote turn on lead should be blue.

Usually, the aftermarket harnesses are wired for power as follows:

Red - Ignition Powered
Yellow - Constant power
Black - Ground
Blue - Remote Amp Lead

This is from the dusty recesses of my brain so you might want to double check.

Default I have an 05 wrx, but it's and automatic

I am stuck on trying to get the part that houses the gear shift to come free. On the automatic it has the gear pattern and don't know if its attached or how to remove it. Any help is appreciated...Thanks in advance Tom

Good question. From what I've found looking around, you can unscrew the shift knob and pop off the bezel assembly, similar to the manual version. At least that's what the link below shows. Or, it's bunk, and I'm a liar!
