I am so lost
I have been researching like crazy but am having a hard time figuring out if the case half's from an 06 Forester NA (ej253) can be used in an 06 WRX (ej255) When I talked to Subaru they said that the last number on the ej code is for the head designation i.e ej253 is NA, ej255 wrx and ej257 sti.
So what I am looking to do is put forged internals in it(crank, rods, pistons, bearings) and use in my 06 WRX? Will that work?

Yes it can, block halfs look identical from outside threw out the range of ej engine's, trans all bolt up heads all bolt on and so on, there are obvious signs of diffrences inside the block but nothing to prevent it from being able to use diffrent heads and other things.
The value of what your doing could be open to some debate though, that 253 is weaker and if I'm not mistaken has either thinner cooling passages or thinner cylinder walls then the 257's, something along those lines. Id say. Your better off ordering a $1800 stock 257 short block and pushing it to about 400ish hp unless you like 3k engine builds for not much more power. |

The situation I am in is my 06 has broken a ring land and is consuming oil. This apparently is the second time it has done this. When I talked to the dealer where I got it they said Subaru put a piston in #4 not long ago. So I am assuming it was bad machine work or something. Knowing that it will need to be fixed and that the motor has already been worked once I thought I would find a project block for cheap and have it machined and then buy forged internals for it as money allows. then once complete swap heads to the new motor and put it in. |

Yes its possible, and yes it will all fit...
But in my opinion your gonna be in for a surprise, tracking down your internals is gonna cost you twice what the stock 257 short block will. And then the question mark of weather or not the one un forged peice in this mix being the weak link, your block... |

I can't answer that really, seems bearing failure is the biggest problem on the 257's but this is also a problem with the 2.0's and the 255's. id guess the ones assembled on wensday's would be your best bet lol
In all seriousness it comes down to the luck of the draw, not all 257's will give you problems, if you beat them and don't expect problems your probably the one with a loose bearing. Your plan seems fair enough, forged pistons can almost rule out ringland failures and decent properly toleranced bearing should prevent future bearing noise's and failures, as long as its assembled properly and your expectations are resonable you shouldn't be let down. |
