Default 15 WRX RokBlokz Install

Ordered RokBlokz instead of Rally Armors this go round because I wanted to save a little money and also try them out. First impressions are they are a lot stiffer than the Rally Armors but still flexible. I'm a little worried about the ice and snow we get here in South Dakota and how these will hold up but they say they will not break in hot or cold climates.

The Install

Disclaimer: This is not a replacement of RokBlokz install and should be used in conjunction with RokBlokz install instructions. Don't PM me if this install leads you to put 2 big bottles of NOS on your car and blow it up. (These always crack me up on how tos but I guess there are those people out there.)

RokBlokz sends you a few pages on how to install that you can get through the install with but the pictures are black and white and some areas a vague, especially the rear. I made it through though.

Tools Needed:

Small Flathead for factory removal. I used a pocket flathead for removal but you can choose whatever you want.

Phillips head screwdriver for installing hardward

Microfiber towel (Cleaning before installing stickers)

Your color choice of Plasti Dip or Paint (optional if you want to paint the hardware)

Breaker Bar

Torque Wrench

19mm Socket for Lugnuts (can use your spare tire equipment if needed)

An experienced car enthusiast not scared to get his hands dirty. Lucky for me, I have one that lives with me.

First thing is to ensure you have the correct items needed for install, heres a pic

If you want to paint, pull the hardware out and paint it. (If Plastidipping, I would just do it on the car after the install and remove any excess after it dries, I didn't do it this way and just touched up the parts after install)

The Front Install

Remove the 4 factory clips that hold the fender liner, don't forget the one underneath. These clips have Philips head inserts that needs to be loosened before the clip can be removed. These are not re-used but try not break them.

Pull the Fender liner out to install 4 Clips provided in your bag labeled Front. As you can see my helper is holding the liner out with one hand while installing a clip with the other.

Install the Metal L by sliding it under the fender liner, under the clip you installed replacing the clip underneath, and lining the holes up. A small screw is used here with the small washer. Get the bracket tight enough it doesn't flop around but still can be moved.

Install the metal clip provided on the end of the L bracket

The flaps are universal and can be put on either side, I chose to put the marking shown in the pic on the inside so it wouldn't be visible after the install. After making this decision, install the stickers provided where you would like. I chose the outside corner but they can be installed anywhere or left off.

Start by installing the inner most screw first w washer and tightening half way.

Next install the front spacer and screw w/ washer(7.5mm) Here. Tighten halfway. NOTE: This was a PITA because you have to push the fenderliner back in on the bottom and slide your fingers behind the liner and hold the spacer. I kept knocking the clip off for the screw and dropping the spacer. Have patience)

The next 2 screws w/washers are easy to install but make sure to only tighten halfway so you can adjust. Get the flap adjusted by lining up the bottom to be parallel with the floor. Eyeball it, you can go back and adjust later if you need to. Here is the front installed.

Do the Same on the other side, Finished Pic

The Rear Install

At this point, my help had to take a bath and go to bed so I had to attack this one by myself.

I chose to remove the rear tires but it could be done with the tires on. I think it takes just as much time to remove that tires then fight to squeeze tools in around them but to each his own.

Loosen up your lug nuts while the car is on the ground

Jack up the car, I chose to use the rear arms, be sure to use jack stands and ensure the car is not going to fall off the jack stands before starting.

Once you have removed the wheels, place the white push in tab here. This takes some force, I placed my thumbs on both sides of the clip once I had it lined up and snapped it in.

Remove the two factory fender liner clips. These clips require you to pry out the center of the clip to release them. These are not re-used but try not to break them.

Install the L bracket provided by placing a screw through the bracket into the white push in tab you installed. Tighten until the L bracket is tight but still can be moved. Install the metal bracket on the other side of the L bracket.
Install the clip provided on the empty hole in the rear bumper. It is obvious where it goes but if you have trouble, hold the mud flap up to find it.

Install the black push in tabs where the stock clips were. These take some force as well to push in but ensure they snap through fender liner and the car.
The spacer provided (10mm) goes here between the mudflap and the finder liner, not inside the fender liner.

Again I chose to put the stamp on the inside so it wasn't visible when installed. Install your stickers once you decide how you want yours to mount.

Install the inner most screw first w washer and tighten halfway. The mudflap will contour to the car as you tighten the screws so don't be alarmed if it feels as if you are forcing the first screw in.

Hold the spacer on the outside of the liner and install a long screw with washer and tighten halfway.

Install the a short screw w/ washer into the L bracket and a short screw w/ washer in the clip you installed on the bumper. Tighten halfway.

Adjust the mudflap so it is parallel with the ground and tighten screws. The rears will be harder to adjust but can be done if you need to after install.

Final Pics (yeah yeah I know, I need to clean off that excess plasti dip) I chose to have them poke out as far as they could for maximum protection but they can suck in more if you would like them to.

I really wanted these, but I'll have to wait to share them with my helper.

Final Thought.

-The install is way easier than the Rally Armors I installed on Evo X and my 13 STI.
-I wish the hardware would just come in black, it sticks out like a sore thumb if not. Rally Armor does the same thing though.
-A better design on the spacers for easier install, integrate them with one of the clips to avoid the headache.
-Would like to have an option of a smaller RokBlokz sticker for the Mudflaps rather than just the logo.

Hope this helps someone out. Check out my build thread for future installs and progress.

They look good!

Did you order them directly from Rokblokz or is there another source to get these from?

Does that RokBlokz logo seem like it would be easy to remove or is it under layers of plastic?

Yes I ordered them from RokBlokz.com. for 89.95 shipped. I also noticed that SMY has them as well for a little cheaper but it doesn't include shipping.

You add the RokBlokz logo yourself during install. It can be left out if you would like. I was also able to peel it back up when I noticed one wasn't lined up right with no issues.

I do like these. I had installed the shorts a few days ago. They were def a pita but I also chose to not remove the rear wheels. Looking back probably would have been easier.

As a helpful hint for those that do not remove the wheels. I superglued the plastic rivets to prevent them from spinning while putting the screws in. Huge help!

Good idea, might even be a good idea to superglue the spacers on the clips as well to avoid that headache.

I have these one my '14, I went to the local hardware store and picked up some black bolts with a 10mm head (IIRC) that way you don't have to remove the rear wheel and can do it easily with them on. I couldn't find any black washers though. Let us know how the plasti dip holds up, I thought it would chip and peel from all the rocks hitting it and whatnot...

I found the instructions that came with the RB's to be good, but this is a great tutorial. Great write-up!! I've had mine on for about a month now, and they are doing a great job keeping the road crap off the paint, at a fraction of the price compared to RA's. Rears are definitely easier if the wheels are off.

They look good. Might have to give them a try if I ever have to replace my RA UR flaps. I really do not like the logo they put on them though. Reminds me of some Bro sticker someone would have on their truck.. With the star and all. Thats my only complaint.

So far so good. First AutoX yesterday and still looking nice and black. I know a lot of people that use this on their wheels and they hold up for a long time. Nice thing is too, if you get a couple of chips you can peel it off and respray without having to remove all the hardware.

You can get through it with the instructions but I like to have color photos. This way no one should ever have to pay someone else to install them, that means more money in your pocket for parts.

Yeah, stickers are ok. I would rather them just put small Rokblokz lettering on the back like the RAs but they have to be different. I may even do that myself.

I actually seen yours after I did all of this. Between the two, we got it locked down.

I bought the RokBlokz mudflaps for my 11 WRX sedan and the hardware they provided was absolute garbage. After 1 winter everything was covered in rust. They also required you to drill a hole to mount the rear flaps.

Sorry to bump this thread, but installed these last night. Had a couple issues with the rears. Ended up breaking one of the plastic tabs that holds the screws into since it was such a tight fit into the existing hole (insert that's what she said joke here). So I shaved down the inside of the taps slightly to make it snap in, rather than force wedge it in place. Only issue with this is to get the screw started it would spin the plastic piece, so I had to reach around the back of the flap and hold it in place until the screw got a couple threads in and snugged it up.

Other than that, pretty happy with them, fronts went on effortlessly and definitely look just as nice as they Rally Armours without the price tag.
