Default Will an 04 OEM HID setup fit on my 03 JDM Projector headlights?

I have JDM (actually EDM but same difference) projector headlights currently fitted with an H1 HID kit which I am looking to replace. I am wondering here if a US OEM 2004 HID kit will fit right onto my projector headlights without modificaiton.
I am mostly concerned with bulb fitment since the OEM HID setup actually has a base at the bottom of the bulb versus my current setup which just has 2 wires running off the back of it. I am also wondering if the ballast would bolt right up to the back of my headlights, keeping it looking very clean.
I realize that the 04s have D2R bulbs and mine would normally take D2S bulbs, but from what I have read they should work fine. Additionally, I actually have a spare set of OEM D2S bulbs sitting here that I can use if it is a problem.
Thanks in advance!! Hopefully this will work out.
Bryan

No, this won't work. Your EDM projectors require H1 bulbs, and any aftermarket HID setup such as you already have will use "rebased" HID bulbs on H1 bases. OEM type D2x bulbs will not fit into your housings.

i was under the assumtion that my EDM lights used the same exact housing as the JDM lights with HIDs, and the aftermarket H1 bulbs only fit because of an adapter that is screwed onto the headlight where the bulb fits to.
i guess thats not right?
i believe you, thanks for the info. oh well, so much for an inexpensive OEM HID kit...

I don't believe that is the case. AFAIK the projector units for HID and halogen are completely different. The internal optics certainly are, you're not getting the same lighting performance with a retrofit on halogens vs. OEM HIDs.

Projectors or reflectors, the optics are different to accomodate the output level and dispersion patterns of HIDs or halogens. You'll never get the same results with a retrofit as with the "real thing", however projector retrofits are usually far more acceptable than reflector ones.

oh ok, i never really thought of what i have as a retrofit until now. i always pictured a retrofit as a hackjob, but i guess its any headlight designed for halogens that now has HIDs.
thanks for the good info...

Hey what's up Wrinkleboi...I'm having a H7 kit installed on my '06 this Sat. I'm very curious myself how this will compare with OEM and a bit concerned with glare. I noticed you live in Langhorne...that's where I picked up my ride last month at Reedman-Toll. You're not too far from me as I'm in the Montgomeryville/North Wales area.
