Default Jdm Ej20

I have read Vlad's post over and over and I'm still not sure which EJ20 I have. What I know is that it does NOT have AVCS, does NOT have TGVs, has "4 Cam" stamped on the valve covers, has coil on plug, it is stamped EJ20, it has a TD05H 49178-06300 turbo, stamping says 03 46 under the intake, it had a slant style TMIC. Any help would be appreciated and sorry if the answer is obvious.

That's... Kinda weird... I see a 5th injector mounted to your intake manifold. As far as I know, those only came on EJ20G Type-RA engines. I have one of those engines, but it has steel cam gears and the T-belt cover says "Turbo."

Is there any reinforcement webbing cast into the bellhousing area?

This engine may not be 100% original.

Whoa. I thought that was a 5th injector but I thought I was losing my mind or being crazy. I'll take pics in the am but yes there is webbing. I'll take a good look and pics in the am.

The block webbing is consistent with my V1 WRX Type-RA closed deck EJ20G, but the cam gears are for sure different.

94-96 Type RA EJ20, should have forged pistons and shim-under buckets in the heads. I think they're 30 or 31mm buckets, smaller than phase 2 buckets and arent easily serviced or converted to shimless.

This section out of Wikipedia describes my engine exactly... from the slant mount intercooler, coil on plug, writing on valve covers, and TD05 turbo... guess I have a EJ20G STI RA... pretty cool.

"Shim-under-bucket style EJ20G usage
All EJ20G equipped Impreza WRX STI RA.(WRX RA needs confirming)

Power output ranges from 220 PS (162 kW; 217 hp) at 6000 rpm and for the WRX Wagons to 275 PS (202 kW; 271 hp) at 6500 rpm and for the WRX STI Version II. Engines can be identified by coil on plug with 1 M8 bolt per coil and valve covers with 4CAM 16VALVE and horizontal lines above the plug holes. Generally these engines all have the slanted intercooler. Engines from the STI RAs received the upgraded Shim-Under-bucket style lifters unlike the normal HLA buckets the WRX & the WRX STI had. These engines also feature STI factory 8.5:1 forged pistons, lighter valves, the intake valves are marked INKO and the exhaust valves are marked EXKO. The standard HLA valves are I252 and E283 respectively. All WRX Wagon engines and automatic sedan engines came with a TD04 with 90 deg elbow, all manual WRX sedans including STI versions had a TD05 with 90 deg elbow."

One Key thing is to send you a updated video of a compression test not an old one

Yeah i know and some of these sellers appear to be storing the engines outside or exposed to the elements....in which case I would be worried about internal rust...so I would need a bore scope video if I were going to purchase

I don't think I would buy a used engine at this point unless I knew it was blown up so it can be properly overhauled

ebay, it was a relatively clean engine but it was sitting for awhile. 140-130 wet compression test. Decided to take the gamble. Received it with an exhaust manifold full of oil, broken IACV, and dented oil pan.

It fired up on the first try though, but on two cylinders since I had the passenger side plug wires switched around.

And no to eBay as tempting as it might be, found that out the hard way. Had to send a 207 right back to Canada.

I'm sure it's probably the same as the JDM avcs ej205... Does anyone know the size? I'm talking about the cam position sensors on the backside of the right and left cylinder heads.
