:update:
So what has been going on? Finally got my motor fired up a couple weeks ago. All seems well enough, I guess. Car needs to be tuned of course but I have a few things that need to be done prior to that.
I'm going to try to get back into this more as the new year starts. Lots to do. El Toro pro will be in April. |

getting places....
Got around to installing most of the fuel system. As always rudimentary. Kinda sucks with a top mount for location so I decided on the vacant a/c location. It gave me the closest to balanced returns. I don't know if that's critical or not as I've seen them less balanced. Also need to keep massaging the metal inlet to work with the tial bpv and the manifold, P/S pump really. Since I'm losing the egr fittings I can trim that off and move the recirc pick up where ever I want. The tial hits the hood currently but I'm waiting on the TIC composite TGV's once those are here it will drop 7mm by losing the spacer, then I'll see how much I have to dent the hood. After everything is fitted the manifold will be cleaned of any unnecassary tab, weld in a bung for an IAT sensor and am -an bung for a vacuum manifold so everything has a positive connection. More later. Still hunting for 18x11 +22 5x100 yeah CCW is probably the only option. |

It seems to be working fine. Got a lot of detail stuff going on.
Have a tune next week so as long as it doesn't explode on the rollers we'll see if we netted any benifits from all the work/$$ So stoked! |

After last year, I wasn't sure that a wrx could compete with Madarash on the surface there - at least not without some weather help. I'm glad to have been proven wrong! Good job!

I have to admit, despite people telling me on Thursday night that the East Course would be great for a WRX, I didn't believe it. The consensus about the course was that the "fast parts were really fast and the slow parts were really slow," and that never bodes well for a turbo car. Fortunately, the "slow parts" weren't so slow that I was out of boost, so I know Greg's car was probably a damned rocket ship out of them (at least it looked like that from the sidelines) what with the E85 tune. I'm really happy for Greg, considering his up-and-down year with the car, and the fact that he chanced driving it long haul not just once, but twice this year (to Packwood and then to Lincoln). I know he had issues just trying to get on the road to make the ProSolo Finale, and I'm glad he didn't just throw in the towel then. Congrats again! |

Thanks everyone. I don't run any video so I don't have any. Also David Cosseboom (gotcone) ran the same heat so.....
I can say driving that car to and from was not a decision a rational person would make. So, cheers to being irrational! glad to have that monkey off my back! |

TL;DR meow…I’m putting this here cause I want to. It is all autox related, if you're not interested. Stop reading.
Thought I’d kinda do a 2013 recap. Because it was more about taking chances, making it work, and the help of others. It’s also about presenting yourself with a problem and figuring out how to solve it. And Howard’s freaking zone points!!!!! I’ll begin by saying I would not have gone to nationals without having points for the Finale so without that there would have been no 2013 nationals trip. If we go back to the el-toro pro of 2012 the car broke a ring-land. Due to circumstances it took me until January 2013 to get it in the car and started up. Made some changes and intended to do the San Diego Tour and the El Toro pro this year in it. Well due to a ****ty valve job I ended up having to drive a mustang at the tour and missing the pro by 2 hours due to a head gasket mix up. :/ Season over. I really have no interest in autox’ing, locally, at qualcomm and I had no new tires. Even though, I continued to work on the car through the spring. Really, just out of boredom. In May my roommates’ (Bret) car wasn’t done to go to the Lone Pine Time Trials he likes to do every year. I offered up my car because he was already committed to going. Seemed like the right thing to do. He bought a new set of BFG R1-S to do the event on….hmmmm. I did do the Sopac divisional at el toro june 21st/22nd but I ran on my Goodyear's from early 2012 that had been baked in the Ramona sun for over a year. The car ran good, nothing broke (success), but it was a hoon fest. ***61514; At some point in there I got the idea to try to get to Farmington, NM for the pro-solo June 28/29. Since the car is tuned for E85 I couldn't drive it there (not enough stations) so I borrowed a truck from a friend and Bret’s trailer. Thankfully Bret allowed me to use the now semi used BFG’s he bought, otherwise I wouldn't have gone. |

Farmington, where the hell am I?
I left San Diego with $80 on a Wednesday night knowing my check would hit Friday at midnight. I made it as far as Yuma but was tired so I pulled over and tried to sleep upright in the front seat but, it was 9million degrees. So I tossed and turned for an hour or so then said eff it and just kept driving. Hit Phoenix at sunrise and made my way to the only place on the way with E-85 to fill my 2 5gal jugs. Continued on the rest of the day through Flagstaff, skirted the painted forest, and then turned north in N.M. towards Farmington. This last leg of the trip was the worst. I was tired. It was dusty, windy, and downright hot. An inhospitable place. I had to stop to get a new battery for the car so I found a place in Farmington and picked it up before going to the site. I think I finally got to the site around 4:30 p.m. Exhausted. Jeff K. saved me a spot so it was all good. Unloaded and prepared to tech the car. I got over to tech and there was some esp competitors freaking out. Because, there were only four entrants in the class. I hadn't even got my stickers, they're in panic mode. "We're going to SM, you have to go to SM" "There's no contingency, we're going to SM." I was like "just relax, let me get through tech." "I'm not switching. I'm here for points in esp." Enter the most awesome Grady W. As I rolled the car up I was met with his unmistakable voice. "Greg, you need a class?" I said "yep." "Well, I'll drive with you." Awesome. On site for 35 minutes and the problem was solved. I had told those guys to give it a minute***8230;. Did I mention it was hot? 108 degrees. Registration, some course walks, and beers were in order. Stat. Hung out in paddock for a while. Eventually drove to a hotel parking lot and slept in the bed of the truck. It was still hot. Saturday morning I enlisted an ESP competitor to help me flush/bleed the brake system since I hadn't done it in a year or so prior. All set. Due to some cones I think I was 4th after first session, oh well, we get 8 more runs. Between the heat and the altitude I was up to 6400K on launch control and it was still bogging. Hmmm This is where I'll point out that since I haven't been autox'ing walking courses and committing them to memory is something I'll struggle with. Not having ultimate speed out of the gate at a pro is ok given the same conditions. At nationals I know this will not work. Saturday afternoon Grady, graciously, claimed an issue to not drive the remaining runs. He was saving the car. I picked up the pace Sat. afternoon and went from 4th to first. Day 1 over, we played cornhole and drank beer. I went and found a different hotel, slept in the bed of the truck. Like a boss. Sunday morning sessions went good. Extended my lead and won. The launch control was now at 6600, haha but it wasn't bogging. I was in Impound and Keith's WRX broke an axle. I offered my car knowing the risk. He got his last 4 runs, car was fine! Sweet. 2 tires and entry into the challenge. Fun runs. I've been here before. Wait around to red light or cone out. Luckily Farmington was kinda undersubscribed. I made it through round one. Cool. Trotter red lights round two. Cool. Round three***8230;hmmm. Round four used my L.C. to force a red light. Very cool. Round five drove the wheels off. Won. Super ****ing cool. 1st challenge win. In a way better than winning nats. 4 more tires, 150.00 from Subaru, 375 for qualifying and super challenge. Sweet. The BFG's loved the heat. I barely watered them through the challenge. They just loved it. All due to Grady. No Grady, no class. Without a class you don't know if you'll have contingency or get into a challenge. Thanks Grady! Packed everything up and made the 750 mile drive straight through. On the way back I went through the Painted Desert. No cell signal, not many gas stations. Brutally desolate. Wonderful. Got home about 6 a.m. Monday morning, drank a beer and passed out. The trip cost me $570.00 |
