Ok

the wife and I drove out north from Dallas, almost all the way to Oklahoma and there was still a ton of light pollution.

We stayed out until about 3pm and saw a few good ones but no telling how many we missed because of the lights.

South on 35 is the best and quickest way to escape pollution in/around DFW. We went south for about 20 miles south of downtown Dallas and went to go see the meteors last night. We saw one that was simply stunning. It shot across the sky for a good 40% of entire sky and lasted 2-3 seconds. The trail was so long it was unbelievable. Best meteor I've ever seen.

We took a bunch of long exposure photos with our new Canon 350D, but we only have the 50mm lens so our results were less than spectacular. We did manage to get one meteor though which was really cool. Had a great time.

Your best bet is NW of Denton next time you want to reduce your light pollution:

I drove out to Granger on Sunday night and saw about 60 meteorites in the span of 2 hours. It was totally awesome. About 5 really big ones. I tried to take some pictures, but the only thing that showed up was passenger airplanes.
