Default Volunteers Needed-Rally America-Desert Storm Reg. Rally-March23/24,2007

The Desert Storm Rally will be coming up in March and we would like to invite you to come out and help us support this event if possible.

IT will be 130 stage miles of roads for this event and we will be headquartered in Blythe,Ca and will be using La Paz County, AZ. roads which is just across the border of California off the I-10 freeway. This will be the 4th annual of this event and this year we have expanded new roads and the longest set of stages on this side of the country concerning a 2 day event. The City of Blythe and its chamber of commerce has gotten involved to help out to make this event successful/fun/exciting for both volunteers and competitors. We are to be having some event activities to be happening and the businesses to get involved. There will be an update on that once we have our meeting again with the city council in another week.

We expect about a 30 car field and Lauchlin O'Sullivan who is running for the national championship of Rally America will be coming down to run this event.

We will be in observation to become a national rally for 2008....your help will be that success to bring out another Rally America National Championship to the Southwest region.

New this year
A VIP/Media/Testing stage on Thursday -March 22nd, 2007:
We are having on Thursday a VIP/Media/Testing stage that day for anyone who wants to come out and see what a rally car is like. you can get in the car and we are hoping to have media there for that in the morning and testing in the late afternoon for any teams that want to check out there car. We will be using a short stage for that portion. But in the morning we should have some teams to come out and have VIP's and media to get in the cars and we will let the workers that work that stage to get in the car as well for a ride....so we would need some control workers and licensed ham operators for this Thursday activity...

Event: (March 23/24th,2007)
Fri(day) and Saturday we will be have both days with lots of competition for the running of events. We already have our control captains ready and we like to get them setup with some workers for their teams.

Volunteer Registration will be at the host hotel on Thursday evening for workers working both events. Friday evening for anyone who can only make it for Saturday only. Just note we do need lots of workers for the Friday and Saturday event. We will make it exciting/fun for you...

Lodging:
If you are interested we will have our host hotel in Blythe and we will have a campground near by with some great rates for lodging. If you want to setup a tent we should be able to have a campground setup for anyone probably around the $15.00-35.00 range but we will know more once we meet with them in another week. Our host hotel we are in working with a contract their rates will be at $69.00 per night and we will be working with another hotel which will be around that range as well. But once you sign up we will be sending out more information about lodging once we firm up all of our deals with the hotels in Blythe.

Parties:
Friday night we are working on a parc expose whereas we close off a street in Blythe and all the cars are on display and with businesses involved and booths and we might have a pizza party or we will get a restaurant involved to get half off on a buffet...so more on this in about 2 weeks...but we will be doing something Friday night for the volunteers.

We are also checking in if your club would like to get involved get your banner and volunteers together and we will get you on the website and on the event shirt.

Also if you would like to put on a car show in front around the parc expose...we could allow that to happen.

Saturday night:BBQ presented by Subaru Southwest Region at the Blythe Chamber of Commerce for all volunteers and competitors...it will be free for you and only $10.00 for anyone outside who did not work the event. We will have vouchers for you to have to show at time of entrance for the party and meet the competitors and watch who gets what awards.

Volunteers get:
Free Lunches both Friday and Saturday
Event Shirt
Friday night is under the works...we will have something...
Saturday night BBQ
Other swag coming...
Prize drawings for ham operators and non-ham operators at the BBQ dinner

Once you sign up we will be sending you updates as we get closer to the event to keep you informed and where to regsiter/lodging/activites/scheduleand who is on what team, etc.

We need:
Timing and Scoring control marshals
Licensed Ham Radio Operators
Setup Crew - To come out Thursday morning help Pat to setup the course...
Hospitality volunteers....
Volunteer Registration
Sweep Crew...need a tow wrench on vehicle and be able to tow out competitor's cars
Spectator Area Marshals
Thursday - VIP/MEdia/Testing Stage workers (need about 6 people)
Tech Inspection Assistants -assist the tech inspector on inspecting competitors cars
Banner team volunteers
PARC Expose Assistant
Service Area Marshals (we will have two service areas)

So we would love to have you..so come on out and enjoy a few days of competive rallying and some great stage roads to watch some great competition ... these roads are rally car friendly and fast...

Hello Denise & Pat,

If this wasn't so far away from the SF Bay Area I would defintely volunteer. For you folks wondering about this event ... if you go to Rim to of the World you should find this rally a blast too.

I worked at X-Games last year doing radio comms. Fun times. Not sure of my March schedule yet though.

Well why don't you guys do this....put a bunch of your forum buddies together and if you come up with 6-8 people for a whole stage...because we do need some people to be FRS blockages and watch right on the stage the action....then the others at a start and finish WE will call it your club name right in the routebook....also recognition on the event shirt...etc.

Heck if you can come up with 12 people and we can do two stages with your names on it....

This is a regional event with a national flare to it...and no other regional have over 130 stage miles in the country....we need lots of people to make this happen to be the first....these are the best roads consider on this side of the states by far....so get it together and send me a note

Register on www.rallydata.com or as I said an e-mail and we will get you regsiterd on the same team....I like to start putting teams together very soon.

As soon as you regsiter then i can update you on motel rates and the opening ceremonies..etc.

Love to have you....we are going to have a great time in the desert.

A group of us did something similar to this at the Reno Rally and we had a great time. We had an Easy up, tables, chairs, 2 ring gas stove for hot food and drinks, plus ... our own porta potty!!

I remember you guys now!!! That was one of the best run control stages even though it was short....Keith Horton was your control captain...I was the steward at the event and car 000.

But you will get a chance this time to see more and the roads are very car friendly and somewhat warmer...

I am getting Lauchlin O'Sullivan to come out and run...he can't run the CPD Racing Subaru that he is running in the nationals but he is very much wants to compete at the event....he is from the bay area as well...
