Question Anyone recommend an alignment shop in southern CT?

Need to get my new Kuhmo's mounted, balanced and an alignment, hopefully without getting scratched rims, or a car that wants to pull off the road.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Paul

It doesn't sound very sexy, but I just use my local Sears. I've trusted them with my 17" UK WRX wheels a few times, in addition to my Volk TE-37s. They showed me their equipment when I said I was worried about the Volks - good, modern mounting equipment, everything that touches the wheels is hard plastic, no metal-to-metal contact at all.

As for alignments, they've been willing to dial in whatever I ask them to. No warranty on my "special" alignments, but I don't really care about that.

If you want to specify the settings on the alignment and want an excellent job call Modzeliski's Tire in Danbury on Federal Road. As for John or Ronnie. Say hi for me..

Hey Paul,
I just got some kuhmo's mounted and balanced yesterday at New England Tire and Brake, across from Tommy-K's, they did a good job, it was $50. They have a nice looking alignment machine too. Before the tires they swapped out my rear lower control arms for me to. The owner (Jim) is a nice guy. You should check them out.

Paul, your problems are what motivated me to ask!

And I'll check out New England Tire and Brake on the way home tonight; that'd be great to find a local place.

Thanks.

Paul,
If you don't mind, can you send me the spec they use on your car once it's done, and let me know if you car goes straight!

I'd appreciate it. Can't wait for Ice racing again. You going to have snow tires by then?

Yep, I'm excited to get back out there, and am already adjusting my winter plans so I can make most/all of the events. I imagine I'll stick with re92's on the stock wheels for the winter. I have a problem driving 400+ highway miles each weekend on nice snows...

I'm hoping to go with mostly stock specs:

f:
camber: -25' (or a bit more)
toe: ~0mm

r:
camber (w/ crash bolts): -1* (or a bit more)
toe: -1mm

According to the manual. those are about middle of the tolerances. Surprised that rear camber is anywhere from -.75* to -1.75*. Probably due to the fact that it's not adjustable from the factory.

The place in Oxford agreed to do it all tomorrow morning for $115 (mount, balance and align), and were OK with using my specs and recording them.

Well good luck. Here is another nice set of settings if you interested:

Ravensblade Impreza Alignment Spec Page

They don't list anything for "castor" though. Does your shop manual say anything about the recommend settings for that?

Caster: 3*35' +/- 45'

Same for both the sedan and wagon. Not as worried about that one.

Thanks for the link, I like seeing other sources that go with no toe.

Great. Now for the Noob questions, how do you read those numbers? The printouts I have list caster in degrees?

If you have a nice link that can explain it, that would be great. I'm going to search around myself too.

Glad you'll be able to make it to more Ice racing events this year. It should be fun.

Damn, Paul, I thought you were an engineer of some sort. That's degrees and minutes.

3*35' +/- 45' = 3.58* +/- 0.75*

Yeah the measurements are a bit much for me to get my head around. Plus it seems like a lot of shops do stuff like toe in inches instead of degrees. Tough to argue about a bad alignment if you're talking 2* and the wrench is saying .003"...
