So I know I kinda said I was done modding this one, buttttt, well my air filter was dirty so why not upgrade.
Im going with a "hybrid" setup that thegoldenfist over at rs25 used: 1st half of a injen cold air intake, K&N Apollo filter which utilizes the bumper fog light insert as a "ram-air-scoop" for colder air. Painted the intake tube gold Also the fog light inserts were a beautiful gloss black but wouldnt match the bumper so I plasitdipped them black to make the finish flatter. Just waiting on the apollo filter

So I finished up the exhasut install about a week or so ago.I was waiting to get some better pictures, but I want to post up some other updates so these will have to do for now:
^Ive also removed the stock air box brackets and such. I dunno why but I like this picture: The routing of the induction tube, Ive also added the fog light inserts to clean the look up a bit just dont have pictures right now. Also had some gold paint left over and hit up the injector covers |

Ok and so whats been up since then:
(and Ill add this first, the car ran beautifully for about a week with the intake before this started acting up, so Im leaning away from it being intake related issues) The other day I started noticing that the acceleration felt kinda odd, kinda like there was dead/laggy spots in the powerband Then on the highway got a bunch of backfires/pops from the exhaust, even worse lagginess, and threw a P0172 "system too rich code" Even though there was no misfire code, the sensation in the pedal kinda felt like a fouled spark plug. So I pulled the plugs, all looked fine, added dielectric grease to the wire connections, and pulled and cleaned the MAF, as well as added some RTV to the MAF seal to ensure no leaks Reset the ECU and car was still acting up So after a bunch of googling/searching and talking to some people, the next thing Im going with is that the upstream O2 sensor may be failing so Ive got some parts on the way. Basically an exhaust overhaul Grimmspeed header gaskets new header wrap + ties New upstream and new downstream o2 sensors sensor extension cable for the downstream subie specific O2spacer for the downsream |

So I solved the issue with the car before the parts even got to me.
I was watching TV and it just kinda popped into my head, I remember that one of the hoses that runs from the intake to the valve cover looked like it might kink over time. So I checked it .... it was kinked. I cut off about an inch to avoid the kinking .... and its been running like a champ since Kinked hose: fixed Hose: Also did a little side work. Painted my buddy's supercharged civic si's valve cover: Then I ended up using the parts I ordered. Pulled the whole exhaust off. Re-wrapped and coated the header and midpipe. Replaced the header gaskets with grimmmspeed ones. Decided to try out remflex gasket material and cut out my own for the two midpipe gaskets. replaced both oxygen sensors (no spacer in the downstream for now), 12" extension cable for the downstream 02 sensor so I dont have to stretch it anymore. Exhaust leak was pretty bad: Wrapped up and coated: Gaskets: So the car sounds much better. And feels much better too, not sure if that exhaust leak was causing problems or if the new sensors have improved the feel. Ill see what codes pop up ... |

So the car is no more. It was backed into by an F150 while waiting at a red light. Crushed up the whole front end and was deemed a total loss by the insurance company. Ill be buying the car back and taking the necessary parts off and selling to a local auto-recycler.
And out of all this ill have two new subies: Right now I picked up a mint 2002 WRX that needs a little work, And as soon as I get the check for the RS Ill be picking up a local 5speed outback for a winter rat / beater.
