What's the lead time on roll cage orders? I'm sorry, you told me over the phone but I forgot with all the other things I have ordered lately. I know you said they don't fabricate any until the order is placed. Is it 1 month?
Thanks! |

Thank you for the kind words! Everyone, a new Autopower order placed today will take about three weeks for manufacturing from today before it will ship out. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions. Best regards, Charles Buren Safe Drives LLC www.safedrives.com cburen at safedrives.com 877-739-1713 toll free |

Roll Cage arrived
Charles, the 6 point cage came in Friday for my 03 WRX. VERY nice quality!
It's going out for powder coating Monday (10/2). I just ordered some additional covering from you guys as well to keep the side rails by the seat from getting too scratched up while getting in and out. Here's a free bump and thanks for your quality service!! |

I just got my Autopower 6 point roll cage installed. I posted some pics below.
The cage is really nice quality and the bars are much thicker than the CUSCO models for example....BUT, there's always a but, isn't there! Before you order this cage just know what you're getting yourself into.. $675 for cage (worth every penny -VERY nice quality) $123 for shipping to East Coast (RI) $450 for powder coating of the cage (unless you want to go with the stock charcoal color and oh, by the way, my cage came painted but the 8 tubes/slip joints that attach the various bar sections weren't painted at all and they go OUTSIDE the roll bar sections. and now the big hitter.... $1,038 to install (2 mechanics and I working for 10 hours to install). The only joints that were pre-drilled were the two upper rear joints that you see in the pictures and the cage feet, all the rest you drill yourself. To fit this cage you have to take out all the seats, dry fit/align the various roll cage pieces in the car, assemble the cage with the slip joints/tubing (none of which are drilled by the way); mark each piece, align and mark each slip joint; disassemble the whole cage, reassemble outside of the car; drill out (2) 3/8" holes for each slip joint, through the joint tubing and the roll cage piping, deburr all the holes; take everything apart again; reassemble into the car; align all the connections/holes; remove rear wheels; drill the cage footers through the body and rear fenderwell; bolt down with supplied doubler plates; torque bolts to spec; reinstall seating front and rear; clean interior, see if you chipped up any of the paint (we didn't but that's one of the reasons it took so long...had to be very careful), and split a case of beer because after this, you deserve it!!!! Would I do it again, YEA! Did I know how much work I was getting myself into...not a clue Last edited by skimobile; 10-18-2006 at 08:24 PM. |

It looks great tho... I was thinking about just getting the 4 but the 6 looks so damn good and serves much more of a purpose. I'll put it in with a few friends to cut on cost.

Wow that looks great.
But... Where is the padding for your head protection? That cage is not safe without proper padding for your head protection! Best regards, Charles Buren Safe Drives LLC www.safedrives.com cburen at safedrives.com 877-739-1713 toll free |

BSCI Homologated padding in the front driver and passenger overhead (front & sides). I haven't did the rear padding yet but I did wrap the door bars with that neoprene rool bar wrap that you sell. It works good and with the available space, its about all I can fit. |

The front isn't too bar to get in and out of. The drivers side is a little tighter with the steering wheel there, the passengers side is a breeze.
The rear...ah well....do you remember when you were a kid climbing around on the jungle gym |

How much is one to expect this paddding to actually help. Cages that cross overhead or just in front of it were made for use with a helmet. Without one... if your wrapping it with anything less than a duck down comforter... it's going to split your head open without much speed at all.

You'll want a window banner or equivalent to block the sun a bit since you can't use your visors with it installed. The driver & passenger side (front to rear) roof bars are the ones closest to your head and really need the padding 1st. The front would really take some stretching to hit but I padded it anyway. The rear crossover is way behind the drivers head and is of no interferance whatsoever to front passengers. I do agree that the BSCI hologated padding doesn't even feel much softer than the cage and I wouldn't want to run into it with my head and no helmet. If you want "cushy" padding, that isn't the type to buy. Just my $0.02 The other plus of the cage is that the car is noteably stiffer in flex. It really firms up the body flex. |

[quote=skimobile;15691272]The front crossover sits in the indentations where the visors and that plastic fold-down sun shade are mounted, just forward of the map light.

My install took about 6 hours or so. Maybe the blue paint made it take longer. :P Or maybe because i did all my drilling inside of the car. (with the exception of one joint.) I can say it would have taken only 5 hours time, but it took me an HOUR to vacuum all the metal out of my carpet. Next time, I'll lay down a sheet... I also welded harness tabs onto the drivers side harness bar because the harness tended to creep around the bend in the tube. I was also able to but my backseat back in (i had removed it to put the harnesses to the rear seat belt points... i know, unsafe... it was supposed to be only a short time but turned into a much longer one). I also padded only the sides of the halo and the door bars. I used the Quote:
I agree with the car feeling a TON stiffer... It's great... rides like my friends rally car... which, to me, is a good thing. Ingress/egress is about on par with my lotus... It was very easy without the doorbar padding, because you could kind of slide in and out. The padding is very... "grippy", and now entering and exiting the vehicle requires a bit more finesse... Much love to charles at safedrives, he was a very helpful sales person... |
