Default Questions about a 5MT to 6MT swap

Hello there, disabled vet from Denton/Dalkas and first time WRX owner but I've literally wanted to own one for almost a decade now so I'm super stoked.
I have an 08 WRX hatch and I want to do a swap to a 6MT. While I was at a transmission shop getting a diagnostic on my 5MT due to grinding in 2nd and 3rd gear I asked them for a price estimate on a swap to a 6MT. They told me that it's more hassle to do that and it's costly. I wanted to find out from actual Subaru people if this is the case. Outside of the cost for the actual transmission and other parts, is this swap really that much of a hassle/costly and if I should get the work done by a Subaru shop or if an ASE certified mechanic would be able to do the job without any problems.
Thanks in advance for any advice or help you guys provide, I really appreciate it.

Cost depends on how you do your swap. There are a few different ways you can do it. It's a fairly straight forward swap though, if you're at all mechanically inclined and have the right tools. If you're not confident in your abilities and it's your only car, I'd have a shop do it for you. There is a ton of information on NASIOC about the different swaps and what you'll need. You just need to go find that thread and decide what you want to do.

Thank you, I used to work on helicopters in the Army but I don't have the tools for the job so I'll be shopping it, I will definitely look for those threads.
