Question 02 WRX wagon with blow motor. What to do?

Ok so heres the story:
My cousin bout a 2002 WRX 5mt Wagon in WRB with the MOMO goodies in early 2006. He loved the car and had no problems with it for about 2 months then the turbo went. He took it back and the dealer fixed it gave the car back and all was good for a few weeks. Then he took it back again as it was running funny and not making full boost. After 2 days dealer fixed it and gave it back. Ran great for 4 days then it went back in as it was not running right again

2 days later they called said it was fixed and he picked it up. He drove it 4 miles home and parked it. He swapped cars with a friend as he needed a truck for the day and his friend took the WRX. 15 min later he got a call that the car sounded funny and was not running right. He told his friend to bring it back.

It was making a screeching noise and a ticking noise. He took it to the dealer to find out what was wrong and after they pulled the motor out and tore it down they called and told him that he had spun all 4 rod bearings and the crank was toast. They also told him it was not going to be covered.

He bout an extended warranty with the car that was supposed to cover the motor up to 100k or 8 years. Seeing as the car was 6 years old and had only 64k on it it should have been covered right? Well they said that car was run with almost no oil in it and that is why it died. They also said it had a MBC on it and that that alone was cause to not cover it. (He did not put that on there it was on the car when he got it. He did not even know it was on the car.)

NOTE: Dealer charged him for oil change less then 80 miles before motor blew.

He tried to fight it but in the end the dealer won as he could not prove that they did not put oil back in the car. They accused him of draining the oil to get his money back.

So now more then 2.5 years later the car still sits under a cover in his garage with the motor in the trunk torn apart.

Im thinking of buying the car off him and fixing it. But I'm not sure what its worth or if I should even bother with it. Car is clean! no dents or big scratches and as far as we know all the parts are still there except the back window. (Got busted out when he was moving the car to his new house)

So what do you guys think?
Should I buy the car and fix it?
Try to buy some parts off it?
How much is it worth?
How much do you think a new long block will cost me?
I can fix the car my self. All I need is parts.

Oh and the dealer he got the car from refunded him for the warranty and then went out of business 4 months later. Car has a lean on it of about 4k.

Cliff notes:
Cousin bout 02 WRX wagon and it blew up and he got screwed. Im thinking of buying it. It needs a motor and a rear window as far as I know.

the wagon probably is worth around 4-7 thousand. new, factory longblocks are stupid expensive but a used longblock wont go anywhere over 3 thousand dollars. i would buy the wagon off of him if i were you.
