SS brake lines and fluid
I've done the search and no real specifics on installing the lines and then replacing the fluid. Here are couple questions:
1. If I'm planning to replace the brake fluid (with Motul) then do I need to drain the entire system when replacing the lines? Or do I just keep bleeding and slowly replace the stock fluid with Motul. Mixing the fluids isn't a good idea I believe. 2. If I completely flush the system does the dealership need to do the bleed to remove the air from the ABS sensor or does the "jam on the brake for the ABS to come in" do the trick? 3. Any tips on the SS line install?

Don't drain the system!
What you wanna do is pull the brake lines off, and put the new ones on. Then start bleeding the system until you see the new fluid come out. I don't know what color Motul is but I used ATE super blue and its obvious when the new fluid comes out. And just make the ABS come on a few times and bleed the system again. p@ www.achtuning.com |

There are plenty of posts about this, so you may do a search.
But to add to what Akiata has said - 1. Must use a 10mm Flare Nut wrench to remove stock brake lines where it attaches to the permanent steel lines. Otherwise, I can guarantee that you'll strip the bolt and come back here crying for help. 2. Change the lines one at a time, and keep an eye on the brake fluid reservoir. Do not let it run dry. Good luck. -Ray |

actually most ABS systems have a little reservour. So you need a specific tool to reset the ABS system so you can avoid mixing the old and new fluid. So you need to flush the system twice if you need to be perfect.
Also take most of the old fluid out off the master cylinder. Another suggestion is to add speed bleeders so you can do that much faster next time around. Cheers Nick |

Now, wouldn't taking out the factory brake line cause the brake fluid to drip out non-stop once the line is un-screwed out? Wouldn't that be a pretty messy job?

there is a U-shaped portion just right where the flex lines hook up. This acts like a trap on your drain under the sink......or something like that.........the lines run horizontal I believe.....so the top of the line is above that....which keeps the fluid from flowing out. |

I'll second Ray's FLARE NUT recommendation- you HAVE to use it, or you're doomed. Even then, looseten it up a bit with WD-40. Those nuts are very soft.
Another thing you might want to do is have a blower (like dust-off) for blowing sand and dirt out from there the metal lines attach to the flex lines. It holds a lot of dirt, and when you take the brake lines off, it exposes the permanent part straight up, in a perfect position to recieve lots of crap into it. |
