Default Buick adopts new advertising tag line

Quote:
DETROIT -- Buick will launch a new advertising tag line Monday: “The new class of world class.”
Bob Lutz, General Motor Co.’s vice chairman for marketing, revealed the new line to Automotive News at a media event here today. The tag line will be used in new advertising for the Buick LaCrosse sedan.
The current tag line, “Take a look at me now,” was first used in June.
After he took over GM’s advertising and marketing in July, Lutz set out to rework Buick advertising. He said he wanted commercials that properly project the design and features of the brand’s new products.
Buick’s lead ad agency, Leo Burnett, did the new spots for the LaCrosse. A batch of Buick commercials that Lutz rejected had been outsourced to the firm of Gary Topolewski, a former Burnett creative director.
Lutz calls the new Buick advertising “aggressive stuff.”
Meanwhile, GM has launched a billboard campaign in Los Angeles for the LaCrosse that pokes fun at Lexus.
The series of billboards, with a photo of the LaCrosse, say: “Another thing for Lexus to relentlessly pursue,” “EX your Lexus” and “Goodbye, road rage. Hello, road envy.”

I can't imaging what Buick could actually do to get some attention, revitalize the brand, and change their image, short of giving some cars away or dropping the prices by a rather huge amount........I really can't picture people choosing Buick over the competition in the same price range...........

I agree, whether the cars are better or not the mental image of the name Buick isn't good. It's going to take a very long time to turn peoples attention, if they can at all.

LOL and I guess the answer from Lexus will be a bilboard that lists the number of lexus vehicles sold and a slogan: "Another thing for Buick to relentlessly pursue"

It is a smart move for Buick to aim for a 'Lexus' standard. Look at how much better the Infiniti G series has gotten since aiming at the BMW 3 series.

Look into the brand that still holds the record for most powerful American n/a V8 or a V6 Buick that could out-run the exotics of the same generation.

I saw a guy filling up. Smiled and then reg. car talk starts. How you like your Buick (why do people love to talk about their car)? Nice I like it, but it's not a Lexus. I laughed and went on my way.

You seem to forget that sports cars are not judged based on the power, otherwise Veyron would be the greatest one ever. But it isn't.
There is a lot of factors that make a ture great car, power is only one of them.

Where did those posts come from (and where did they go)? That was pretty funny.

Contrary to popular belief, G-body's have the ability to handle very well with some upgraded parts (for up to date performance).

As for the 80's; it couldn't handle with the Corvette, which was the 'best handling car' when introduced in '84. However, for general performance, the GNX handled quite well, 245/50r16f, 255/50r16r tires; ladderbar rear end (can't find handling info on the GNX). Remember ASC McLaren played with the car.

A base GN would pull .80g, not bad for a 'straight line' car from 1984-1987.

They can keep changing their advertising tag lines all they want but its going to take time to overcome the current brand image of being old, boring, and dull. If they are aiming for Lexus, they better reflect that in the product.

i agree with nhat

buick reminds me of ralph lauren cologne and a box of tissues in the floorboard, even the dashboard compass with a "i <3 america" bumper sticker

buick could def. use a new look and if they achieve that then more power to them but for now....buick is clipping coupons watching the 8 o'clock news forgetting if he already ate
