Default Arx

It was great to see Scott Speed win the ARX in the Subaru, but does anyone feel like it is a bit cheap?

There are 8 total drivers in the highest ARX Class. 3 of which are Subaru. I just do not feel as if the competition is nearly as strong to make this win feel right.

It also feels that way with Rally since it is the biggest factory team against everyone else.

Thoughts?

Subaru can't control how many entries there are, or the level of competition.
They want to race, and they want to win, regardless.

Imagine Subaru didn't win in either of those series "with such low competition" What you guys would be saying

Damned if you do, damned if you don't eh ?

Don't win for 5+ years. Finally win one, come on Nasioc and see the enthusiasts say "it's a cheap win"

I saw a reddit post about a year ago where it was a Subaru fanboy who was basically pleading to find out why Subaru's were so bad at Rallycross. Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/cars/commen..._at_rallycross

Basically the reddit post says that Subaru has been in "rebuilding years" for way too many years. They got rid of fan favorite driver Bucky Lasek and replaced him and another with more okay drivers that did not produce real results.

This ARX win shows one thing.

They stole the top driver from another brand, Scott Speed, and he can still win in a Subaru. Means nothing bad against Subaru except the prior half decade of drivers even the two they still have cannot hang with competition. They wasted so much time with them.

The reddit post also mentioned the Isle of Man record, which in my opinion is definitely a "cheap" win. Let's get a record where no one else can go and no one will really care to get.

Regarding the level of competition, arguably the most famous Rallycross/Rally driver Ken Block doesn't even show up to all of the events. When he does, he beats Subaru's and loses to VW. Will be interesting to see since Speed can win in a Subaru this year.

Didn't Sverre Isaksson win one event? Or was that just a podium?

Issachsen won about 4 1/2 years ago in the hatch. Since then, the Subarus have been competitive on lap times but have essentially lost by the first turn due to the VW's and other cars being faster off the line. A lot has been said about the size of the Subarus compared to other cars but I'm not sure that explained their inability to accelerate as quickly as the VW's. Looking at lap times, they've always been competitive from track to track.

The big difference isn't Scott Speed, as evidenced by both Atkinson and Sandell winning. It's the fact that they've closed the acceleration gap. Changes the entire complexity of the race. They seem to have these chassis really dialed in as well, making them handle like smaller cars.

We all want more cars and manufacturers to join the series and I hope that with the introduction of what will probably be new tech(most likely hybrid powertrains) in the next few years we could see that. The costs associated with that could be a problem though....
