2011 WRX stock intercooler alignment issues
Good morning, I just recently bought a 2011 WRX 3 days ago and so far I'm loving it (coming from an 04 WRX). Anyways, i noticed that i have a boost leak on intercooler to turbo side, so i took it off and I also noticed that it has a mishimoto TB to IC hose with a spectre brand 3" to 2.4" coupler at the end of it and didn't even have clamps on them smh. Anyways, I took the spectre coupler off and tried to reinstall the IC back but now it won't align with the turbo side. I kept fighting with it for 3 hours, trying different ways, sides and even put the spectre coupler back on and still nothing . I've searched on google, here, clubwrx, and wrx tuners and no one has this type of issue. Can you guys help me on how to align the IC properly and reinstall it back on without issues? Thanks in advance.

Probably not a model specific hose. That OEM throttlebody hose is notorious for folding and causing boost leaks, so wouldn't be surprised if someone fixed with whatever they had on hand.
Pics might be helpful, but consider just buying a replacement; a new aftermarket part can be had for ~$60 and will probably save you some headache... |

Thanks for replying Stretch 18, it didn't came with an oem TB hose, just a Mishimoto TB hose that is design for that year but the spectre coupler is not. I just can't understand why I'm having a hard time aligning it on turbo side.

i know the stock tb coupler has an off set in it and had to be align a certain way. the way i did it was connect the TB side first to IC then you had enough play to make it fit on the turbo side and bolt up to turbo

Sorry for your problems. That tmic is known to be a PITA to install.
The easy fix for that is not cheap, but both my cars have the Grimmspeed tmic. So much easier. Do you still have the OEM tmic ? |

I would leave the hose on the TB side connected (not tightened!), then worry about the turbo lining up, then rotate the hose until it seems to want to slide in. They can definitely be a pain though. Is this on a stock intercooler? |

Thank you all for replying back. Yes this is the oem tmic we are talking about. I just bought a new cobb TB hose thinking that the mishimoto one wasn't fitting properly but i had trouble with the cobb one as well. I've tried different position of the hose and still having a hard time aligning it with the turbo side. Can anybody show me a pic of the TB hose factory position? Or a video? I'm losing my patience here.

You might want to look at www.legacygt.com and see if there is a picture there or ask for help in the 4th Gen forum there. As we have the same set up.
I just remembered I have the set up from one of my cars in the basement, OEM tmic with TB hose on it. I'll post pictures over there and link them here. I don't think I can post pictures here, haven't taken the time to figure that out. Thank you so much for the pics Max Capacity, but I think that's how i have the tmic and hose orientated and still not aligning correctly on the turbo side. I'm beginning to think that maybe the previous owner has rotated the turbo a bit to the right?? idk, tmic looks a bit tilted instead flat and flushed with intake manifold, if that makes sense.

Your welcome.
You may need to "re-clock" the turbo. I thought there used to be a white dot on the OEM TB hose, that went up on the tmic side... ? Another thing I've learned when working with the turbo is to leave it loose on the up pipe and start all the bolts on the tmic and TB hose before tightening things down. How do you "re-clock" the turbo? Also, wrx came with a red mishimoto TB hose when i bought the car last week, not oem.

The compressor housing should be clamped to the center section of the turbo. Or it could be the exhaust housing that's clamped. Either way loosen that and you can rotate the outlet side.
Spray the area with something like PB Blaster, and loosen the clamp and tap the outlet hosing in the correct direction. Look at an on line photo of your turbo from one of the Vendors and you should be able to see how its clamped to the center section. Google search "how to clock a turbo". |

UPDATE: i figured out how to reclock the compressor housing by loosing the 5 bolts behind the housing and now was able to align the tmic at the turbo flange without any issues. Now she runs and pull strong, so happy.
