Default 2009 Wrx PO500 vehicle speed sensor A

So I was helping a friend raise his car up for rally x. Wrx 2009. And after we got it done we got a CEL.

PO500 vehicle speed sensor A

We we doing suspension upgrades and for the love of me can't figure out why it tripped this code. Anyway tried to reset the ecu manually and by using learning view. Still comes back. But what's weird is it isn't just the CEL light it's the fuel door light, cruise is blinking.

So why would a faulty speed sensor A not just throw a CEL but additional abs, cruise, fuel door. And not be able to be reset?...

After I used learning view to reset the code I check it and there was no code until you start it up. But the car apparently is sluggish and feels like it's in limp mode, but only throws that one code.

Any guru help would be great!

Rob

I'm having the same issue and it's driving me nuts, what did you end up having to do to solve the problem?

Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure why they named it that, but P0500 means you should really check for codes stored in the VCD system.

I had one that was throwing a P0500, but also a few other codes. It turned out to be iron casting debris floating around between the wheel bearing and the dust cap on the axle, intermittently throwing off the wheel speed sensor.

Do you know anything about pass codes?

Default Bump

Bumping the thread.

I am having same problems. When starting the car get a CEL, dash lights up like an Xmas tree--VDC, CEL, Cruise, the works...

Any additional info regarding "P0500 Speed Sensor A" would be appreciated.

Unfortunately we had to take it to the dealership which replaced the sensor.

Default 2010 WRX Same Issue

I replaced my front ball joints, dust covers, wheel hubs/bearings, rotors, brake pads, and ABS speed sensors and I am still getting this code. I tried resetting the ECU and deleting the code, but it keeps popping up as soon as I turn on the car. Any help with this would be great.

Greetings,
9yr old thread for a '03 WRX.

You have a 2010. Same premise though.

What brand speed sensors did you go with?
What brand hubs did you go with?

Hopefully OEM.

Are you sure you didn't pinch something during re-assembly?

Grease? I grease all of the mating surfaces on the hub, and axel splines, but if you put too much or get any near the hole for the speed sensor problems can arise.

Brand matters. There are a several after market hubs out there. Timken, MOOG, Duralast, etc. Not sure who Subaru is using for theirs, but I always buy OEM. Reason. Only have to do it once until the next failure.

If the code is returning after deleting on every restart, you're going to have to take the wheels off and re-inspect. Worst case partly dis-assemble or fully and replace some parts. I know it sucks, and you'll be out twice the amount of your time, some parts and maybe some $$$. Hopefully you can solve without too much trouble.

Default Similar problem in 2014 Impreza

I replaced the front left hub and got a Christmas tree of warning lights. Code reader said it was P0500 Speed Sensor A. I replaced that with an OEM sensor. Still have all the lights on. Any ideas much appreciated.

Greetings,
What I said above applies in your case as well.

Parts, installation, etc. Hubs are not created equal.

What brand/model# hub did you use?

Also, Free SSM is another option. It might give you more insight into your issue. However, I'd assume brand and installation of parts first.

Thanks for the post.
I used all OEM parts. I also posted a more thorough post here about my issue. Really driving me crazy. For the first time in my Subaru ownership.
