Default Does anyone make dampers for the 08 WRX (and soon to be 09)?

this is kind of deja vu from 2001 when we had no dampers to upgrade to, save the oe v7 STi inverted ones

anyone know of anything or anything in the works?

Considering the 09 WRX's are significantly stiffer damped and sprung than the 08's and after talking to a couple of ppl I know who work for Subiesport that drove the car at the test sessions a lot of wrecked 09's are going to be cannibalized for 08 upgrades. From first reports all the 09's seem to really need are some stiffer sways.

KW, tein, and cusco have coilovers out. No struts though it seems, although it might be possible to use legacy stuff. The rear suspension is a little different, I'll have to pay closer attention next time I'm under them.

clearly the 09 struts/shocks will be sought after by the 08 guys- springs too

while the WRX is similar to the "new" Legacy, I don't think it's similar enough to swap parts though

I know a fellow at a company that begins w/ K and ends w/ i, I'll give him a shout

I am using 05+ legacy Koni's.

It is an insert/cut/install on the front, and rears you have to swap the bottom bushing.

But, huge improvement, and I am running them with the SPT/STI pinks.

oh, and had to enlarge the rear top hat centre slot a little, to make the larger bore Leggie size strut shaft to fit.

I had leggie struts - and tops to play with.

Leggie rear tops don't work.

Makes the car handle really nice now - even the wife approves.

Sways next for me.

In SS for autocross now - due to the springs.

oh, neat little feature about the spec b front struts is that the housing is extended like 3/4" below the clevis for more bump travel. So if I was going to try to use legacy stuff on my 08/09 I'd get some of those.

hmmmm- that's interesting- I wonder what the spec B housing would do for camber???

someone should take the time to measure the stroke on the oe struts- guessing it will be close to the previous Imprezas, but would still be good to know

just so I'm clear here you are using the Koni 8610 1447 inserts up front and no fitment issues at all?

in the rear your using the 8010 1053 shocks? Would you mind providing a little more detail on what needs to be done w/ the rears? Wouldn't have pics of what you had to do by chance?

Front, no problem.

Rear, had to swap the bottom bushing form the 08 wrx to the koni, enlarge the 08 top hat center area with a drill, and bolt in.

I expect the front geometry is identical between legacies and the 08 (sti excluded). Next time I have the struts off one I'll measure some things.

I know there is a guy running around with some $4500 custom AST struts, but I'm guessing that is not what you are looking for

that would be great

^ probably not unless your springing for them John

on the rear mount, the new Group N catalog shows a rear top that has a 22mm opening- would that by chance be the same as the Legacy (the WRX being smaller)???

good news from Koni the 08/09 WRX strut/shock is in the works as we speak. Lee already has part #'s, he is hoping for an early winter (Dec) release, but cautioned it could be a little later.

they will enjoy the same wide range of damping that is Koni's trademark

I won't be picking up an 09 until 2011 (unless the STi sedan surfaces) so hopefully the aftermarket will be effectively saturated with 08/09 parts by then.

Yeah, my 08 "showas" really sucked. Interesting design inside - kinda like inverted.

I mentioned to Lee that at least one guy was using the LGT Koni setup- (Lee was instrumental in developing those btw) he stated that they were very similar platforms. I'll be curious to see if the front part #'s are the same????

Me too..

The rears will be different, as the bottom bushing is different, and the LGT shaft is thicker.
