We will see how it turns out, but I don't expect to fail the consumption test.
how the hell does your dealer think that a manual transmission has remotely anything to do with motor oil consumption? did you laugh at them after that response?

No, I didn't, because it makes sense. With a CVT, the revs stay low when you aren't on the throttle. In a manual they stay wherever they are when you let off. If you engine break or downshift at all, it creates negative pressure in the combustion chamber during the intake cycle and, in cases with thinner oil like 0w20, can pull oil vapor up into the combustion chamber. Over time, this burns more oil than a CVT that keeps revs as low as possible when you're not heavy on the throttle and almost never engine brakes. The CVT can still burn about 3/4 of a quart between changes and varies from engine to engine. Their explanation makes sense and is consistent with what I have read elsewhere about both Subaru and other manufacturers that use 0w20.

is there such a thing as normal oil consumption for our cars?
mine is a 2010 subaru STI and been consuming oil despite good leakdown test and compression test.
Installed crawford V3 AOS and it helped a lot but during trackdays would still consume oil

Well, with the 2013 outback the issue was bad rings.

I had a 1997 Honda prelude and I was getting compression of about 240 PSI per cylinder. The car had no performance issues, but I was burning a quart of oil every 2000 miles.

Eventually I decided to replace the engine with a JDM version. When I took the engine apart I noticed unbelievably light scoring on the number 1 cylinder wall. You could easily miss it if you didn't have a high-intensity light.

I guess my point is that it doesn't take much.

I recently switched from the 0w20 oil that is recommended to a 5w30 oil, this cut my oil consumption in half from what it was. Personally the 0w20 oil makes me uncomfortable...

I was going to through about 1.5-2 quarts per 5,000 mile oil change interval.

Any notable performance decrease? Supposedly the lighter weight oil aids in fuel efficiency

My 2012 Forester was eating a quart every 750 miles or so near the end of her time with me - made it to about 245k.
Made no difference which oil I used.
