+1 for scrubbing bubbles. Works awesome and leaves no residue. If it does it will get warm enough to burn it away. Also use simple green as a slight degreaser if need be.

I've heard people say peanuts butter works well on black plastics... It didn't work for me at all though

I have recently detailed to engine in my 2005 WRX wagon and followed this video by Chris Fix. The guy has a nice simple approach to his videos and my detail job turned out great.

I just use vrp to shine it up and if its really bad you could use some degreaser in a foam cannon or something like that.

this is by far the easiest and most effective way ... Tire Cleaner and Shine (i used Meguiar's)
spray it on, wait 5 minutes, repeat. towel up any excess. my dad's car before: after: |

Was doing an oil change, and noticed my engine bay was pretty dirty/dusty. Have any of you sprayed it down with a pressure washer after the cleaning products? I'm a little hesitant to do this as there are a lot of exposed areas..

25 years ago, dad washed the engine bay of my brother's car and mine. Both ended up with dead alternator soon after. Ive always covered the alternator since and no issues whatsoever. Ive used pressure washer, but you know, dont force water where it doesnt belong. |

Seems to me, any good quality brand chemicals work. I had no issues with any yet.

Didn't think it was so simple
I was thinking about detailing my own engine but couldn't find any info on how to do it for my specific car. So I went with my local company at autodetailingvictoria.com and while they did a great job I now, after watching your video, would feel confident to do it myself next time. So thanks for sharing!

I always used APC for general cleaning, degreaser for the harder to clean spots, with a wire brush for the block and other components that can't get scratched easily. I would then use a trim restorer for any black plastic peices/covers.
