Default DTC P1596 - Possible ECU, Wiring, or Compatibility Issue. Need Some Suggestions.

Car:
1999 GC8 w/ EJ20 swap
GC was a manual, donor was an auto.
ECU - 22611AF413

Everything went smooth with the swap (thanks Brydon). Except for this one CEL, Car runs and drives great amazing.

The P1596 Code is "Automatic transmission diagnosis input signal circuit high input", based on my research, is the ECU saying it does not know that the car is a manual. Many Subarus use the same ECU for MT/AT and simply ground 1 ECU pin to tell the computer. I even found This Thread that seemed to have the answer. Grounding B136/1 did nothing, and I am still receiving the code. Also, no 2002 WRX wiring diagram I can find (Northusalia and ALLDATA) calls out a transmission identification pin. No pins are listed as having unique diagnostic values based on the transmission.

So...
  • Does this ECU have a transmission ID pin listed elsewhere?
  • How can I confirm the ECUs are truly interchangable between AT/MT?
  • If not, Can this ECU be flashed to a MT ROM?

Any help or suggestions is appreciated!

I did find this: http://www.osecuroms.org/viewtopic.p...a7099fb4f6cc79

Which further makes me think there's no difference between the ECU's. What am I missing? A ground?

Ok, so, I found the problem and it was as simple as I'd hoped for. Zephyr was close, but called out the wrong plug in his response to the previous post.

B84/1 needs to be pinned and attached to ground. (Connected to B134/7 or B134/15) - This tells the computer the car is a manual.

This connection is not present on the ECU pinout diagram, but is subtly listed on the Engine Electrical System diagram.
