Default 2009 WRX Rally Innovations Light Bar Install

Installed a RI Light Bar with Hella 4000 Cornering Lights over the weekend:

The RI light bar isn't very well supported at the top, so I added the thru-bumper support:

What I used inside the bumper was a 'rivet nut' from McMaster Carr (P/N 97217A393) that installs like a rivet, but is threaded down the center. Detail:

The lights are big enough that I had to use some heavy tubing to mount them to the bar, I ended up using 304 stainless bar (1" square with 1/8" wall). It was a pain to cut, but its SOLID!

I mounted a rocker switch on the center console:

Overall the lights are nice and bright and provide good beam pattern for the windy country roads I drive on!

Couple more shots:

The HELLA's are covered with the clear shields I found on Amazon (also got the lights there). They should keep the road rocks from killing these bad boys too soon. I'll post night shots later.

Maybe tonight, I have to adjust the alignment of the lights to get them to project in the right area... I might not get to it until tomorrow night but I'll try.

that rail ur lights are on makes it look like its a diy. take it off and get some lights that fit... it would look much cleaner.. ur not going to like it when summer comes and that one bar is sticking far out like that.

still like my diy more than the RI one, its way more sturdy and i think it wraps the bumper better.

Totally agree... if I had the time and the fab skills I would have tried to do something more like yours (I looked at this pic for hours before doing mine).

Maybe when the weather is warmer I'll try and mod mine to be closer to this design.

And these lights aren't for fashion! We have gotten so much snow around here, and the weather has been so bad that these are almost mandatory for safety! When the weather is warmer I'll clean this up with some paint and nicer brackets, etc... but I did this install in a 12 deg F garage after work, so I needed it to work more than anything.

One other suggestion (if you haven't already) wire the lights to come on with your highbeams, that way you don't have to turn off the highbeams and then reach down to the center console to turn off your auxiliary lights every time there's oncoming traffic.

Yeah, I plan to do that this weekend... it was just too cold for me to do that the other night, but having driven a couple nights with the lights as they are, I agree its a good idea.

Default Night Shots

I finally got around to taking some photos at night, and it was pretty hard to get a good shot of Low Beams and All-On since the high setting washed everything out.

HID Low Beams:

Lows+Highs+HELLA 4000's

I know it doesn't seem like a huge difference, but in person, to the naked eye, its AMAZING. These things turn night into day.
