Default 2000 2.5 RS -> ver.7 sti conversion

Hello everyone, im new to the club. I joined because i have some serious questions I am seeking answers for. I have a reletively stock 2000 2.5 RS (gc8). I recently bought a version 7 sti front clip from japan. The clip i will hopefully be recieving shortly comes complete with engine, ecu, uncut wiring harness, 6 speed transmission with dccd, rear differential, full driveline, and all axles.

The question im getting to is, will any of my axles or drivelines (from the sti or RS) fit? Will i have to get different hubs? And besides the turbo front crossmember, fuel pump, and exhaust....what else will i need to aquire to execute this conversion smoothly?

the 6 speed came with beefier axles for the rear. if u have the whole rear end no need to worry. for the front I know they are bigger... but I'm unsure if you need new hubs. I'm almost postive u don't but you will wanna use whatever axles come with the clip.

Ive read that the ver.7 axles are a little longer. I wonder if they the have enough plunge depth to prevent them from binding when the suspension is fully compressed?

no the ver 7 axels are a little shorter, this is because the r180 rearend is a bit wider than the r160, compensation, all that stuff is bolt up, thats what i have in my car, 046spd mated up with my original 2.5rs engine, rear hubs, sti axels, r180 rear, rear brembos, sti driveshaft, everything bolts up like stock. and all works normally also, no sacrifices in performance... oh but you will need lots of time and the right tools, but other than that it should go smoothly thats if you do it right of course, but if your somewhat mechanically handy then you should be fine. good luck

Sorry to hijack, but I have questions along these lines. Will the STi driveshaft work with a 2DR 2.5RS? I would think it would be longer. I am considering a similar swap... should I go JDM or USDM for the driveline swap?

R180 rear shafts are the same length both GD and early JDM GC(Sti RA). Front GD shafts are slightly longer but there is enough plunge depth to fit them on a GC.

Ok,....so i think i have the mechanical part of this swap figured out. But i want to know if anyone has any good (perhaps step by step) information on modifying the sti wiring harness to work in my car. I plan on usung the sti guage cluster to make things a little easier.....but i dont know where to start until i get the clip. Can anyone help me?

Well i have some very bad news, I got scammed by the ebay member "rv2racing". Ebay shutdown his account, but he is still running his scam so im posting this in hopes of protecting innocent people such as myself. I am out $3870 now, and so now i dont have the money to do the swap i was so enthused to do......its a very discouraging experiance. Dont let this happen to you, i have lost a lot of enthusisam, so much so that i am considering selling my car and getting out of the car scene alltogether (says a lot when i have been into cars ever since my dad let me into his tool box).

good luck to everyone,
Adam

It's EBAY's ****ing fault.

There was a similiar subaru front clip scam a while ago. I emailed the seller to verify it was a scam saying i could pick it up with cash ASAP...turns out i could never even get a phone number out of him.

Anyway i reported it to ebay and heard nothing. Next email i get from EBAY they tell me i've recieved points for spamming through their email system with the fraudulent seller. (He had reported me to get me in trouble) Now i can't post things for sale on EBAY. Everything i've bought on ebay has been a sham, i truly hate it and hope it dies.

Now ask me how i really feel about ebay

Sorry to hear of your situation it's too bad it had to come to that, all too common. Too bad ebay doesn't care.

That F-ing SUCKS man. I had some bad experience buying a video game on ebay, but this really blows. Why not try sue them in small claim's court - try those televised shows like people's court. You won't win, cuz they have clauses that are buried deep in their contracts, that we all are supposed to read, right! BUT maybe they'll just settle to avoid publicity. Don't give up on the cars man. There are a bunch of reliable shops that you can source the jdm parts from, kingpin, rallispec, etc.
