Default Cosworth cams

Anybody have issues with the quality of the cosworth STi cam.

Long story short, I have a built motor that uses these cams, after 300 miles of break in I noticed some knocking noise from cylinder 3. My builder and I took a look as we thought their was something wrong with the shim or bucket. To our amazement the lobes on the intake cam were worn down The other 3 cams were fine, so I wondering if anybody us had quality control issues with these cams?

I have the cossie 278/274 avcs cams and so far so good... 3500 miles and no issues, noises, etc.

How did you break in the cams?

There is a thread in Proven Power bragging. Phil from Element as well as Scott Siegel from Batlground have both had issues recently.

Broken in properly, less than 10 psi, 4000 rpm limit. The other 3 cams were fine and the clearance was the same measurement as before. Only faulty cam clearance was drastically off. I am guessing the material the lobes were made out of were not hardened properly, but I not an engineer. Just can't believe cosworth/kelford would put out something like this

The lobes are not made of anything. The whole camshaft is cast with no grinding or shape. Then they are ground to predefined specs, lift diration... and then later hardened.

I would also ask about break in. There are instructions along the lines of put the motor at 1500 rpm for 5 minutes etc etc.

That is specifically what I was asking about, not the engine break-in.

I ran mine between 1500-2000rpm for 30-45 minutes right after the initial startup. If this step was skipped I would not be surprised about excessive cam lobe wear.

If you did not do the break-in right, I would think all the cams would be wrecked

I saw that thread, He built his motor right after mine

my car hasn't been fully tuned yet although the car appears ok at the moment

I had to wait for my camshafts as they came in on a different shipment than the other set. We verified the camshafts and all the specifications of our build as we keep meticulous records and pictures that show the part numbers of the camshafts in the head. I will be shocked if these cams come back measured to advertised specification given my normal experience with them.

Thanks,

The 07 from the vids is fine. This was another car an 06 with low miles.. It was using FFS and LC. It broke after the first pass with the LC + FFS on

Yes, the engine ran at 1500 rpm for 30 minutes.
