Carter is good. Buying there was very simple. The negotiating took just a few minutes. Dan the finance guy is no good. Steer clear of him. He was the only hassle at this "no hassle" dealership. Carter will get my business again though.

Thumbs up

Yeah,

Carter is great, Joe Spitz is great and easy to deal with. The finance guy was nice enough but disorganized and probably tried to pull a fast one on me. I just told him to bring my 00'OB Ltd back around and I would be leaving unless he did better on the financing. It worked. As far as service work, I've only had the WRX in for it's oil change. No problems, in and out quickly. Carter threw in free oil changes for life because of the hassle w/the finance guy. Overall, I'm pleased.

Thumbs up

Carr is great, and Joe Spitz is the guy to see for a WRX. My negotiations with him took 30 minutes and I ended up with my new WRX with everything I wanted at a price that beat Portland, Oregon dealers by $1,500. Great people to deal with.

Thumbs up Carter mod-friendly eh?

How mod-friendly are they? Will they install stuff for you, or just look over it when you bring your car in?

Nik Forte sold me my WRX. About a year ago he let me test drive a 2.5RS when he knew I wasn't going to buy, I was just doing research. There was zero-pressure, he was totally friendly, and was nice even when I think I scared him a little during the test drive (chirped the tires on one of the uphill/corner starts at a stopsign).

He seemed pretty enthusiastic about what the WRX could do "with just a few hundred dollars in mods". Maybe I'll take him up on that and see what he was referring to, or if it was just the buzz at work that week (I picked mine up with the first shipment of WRXs to the US).

Oh, and there are 2 finance people named Dan at Carter (or at least there were when I picked my car up). The Dan I worked with even did a lot of back-bending when my financing went awry just to make sure everything worked out right.

When the STi arrives, I'll be going to Carter for the pre-order.

they are fairly mod friendly... Carter replaced the short block on my Legacy GT when it died and said nothing about all the little mods i had on there... they warrantied it, no questions asked...

but they cannot install aftermarket items as it violates the policy set forth by SOA...

they really are a great bunch of guys tho!

any ?'s let me know!

Default Problems with Service...

Sorry have to disagree! I believe they are nice to you for several reasons, 1 their your sponser , 2 the majority of your mods are suspension.

I have always had problems with Carter. Even before I got my turbo.

Service -
I went in for a problem with my clutch squeeking, the blame it on my underdrive pulley. Threaten to not even warrenty my clutch problem because of that part! Like that would even affect it. When I picked the car up, the invoice had about 1 sentence talking about the problem and 2 paragrhaps listing out my mods to my car.

Also at the same time, they notice one of my brake lines (stainless steel) was leaking. They note this on the invoice, but don't even attempt to firgure out what the problem was...a loose nut, 5 seconds I had it fixed. I know for sure they knew what the problem was.

Take the car in serveral months later, to have the same clutch problem fixed...they work on it, but again hassle me about my mods, which were now far greater then last time, but nothing too serious. They probably would have not warrentied it, but I told them as soon as he saw my car, and he started to talk about warrenty work, I told him I knew that they couldn't cancel my warrenty unless they could prove that one of my parts caused this problem. He shut up after that

Now that the have a Turbo...I'd never take my car there for service. That's just the service department.

Parts - is VERY slow on helping you if you need help.

Sales - Tried to buy my car here, bad salesmen led me to another dealership! (Unforuntaly I can't take my car there, nor know what they think since it's almost an hour away )

Long story short - I still go to Carter for parts and Warrenty work I know they have to fix. Though I would sort of be leary leaving my car there, but that's just me...

EDIT: oh yea, they never could fix my problem with my clutch, took it to them 3 times. Finally just replaced the whole darn thing with a "performance" part

I'd have to agree with ethan. I'm sure the reason subiegal gets the warranty service with no questions asked is because they sponsor her. What good does it do them to sponsor someone if they can't drive their car around? I'm sure if I went in there in need of a block replacement with a lot of bolt on mods, I'd probably hear something about it.

I wasn't impressed with their sales either. I went in there, looked around some. Usually salespeople come running to you when you're at a place like that. The one there just kinda looked at me for a while. Finally, I asked him if they had any 2.5RSs, and the answer I got was "no, we don't have any." He didn't offer try to show me the wrx, the ts, or anything.

My one experience there wasn't a good one. Perhaps I just went in at a bad time of day, who knows, but I'd be reluctant to go back there.

I don't doubt Ethan's experiences and he does bring up a good point about Jamie's affiliation w/Carter being a factor. I can, however, give an explanation to jhonas' experience. I used to sell cars ions ago for Lincoln/Mercury in Oly. Salespeople sometimes go to the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to approaching potential customers (or in your case, not at all). Salespeople have the reputation (deservedly) of coming on too strong. To combat this, quite a few salepeople take the nonchalant attitude to an extreme. There obviously needs to be more middle ground but I can tell you from experience that it's pretty much a damned if you do & damned if don't situation. Just my .02

ummmmm no...

the first time i went there with my BLOWN ENGINE.. they didnt know me - who i was - or what i did...

and they gave me a new short block under warranty...
nice try... but no....

since then we've developed a relationship and a successful one at that... sorry that the salesmen dont jump down your throat when you step on the lot um... usually that would be a good thing.. heh..

sorry about your warranty issues Ethan... i dunno? never had that problem... guess it's a case by case thing...

and yes.. some of their services are lacking...
but overall i find them to be one of the more decent dealerships around... 10xxxx better than Melody's or Chaplins.... and beggars cant be choosers eh?

Always been happy with Carter. Bought my car there... and had all my oil changes and servicing done there. However their service costs are a bit steep, and i won't be going there for my 30k service.

What's wrong with Chaplins? I was trying to buy a used RS off someone in Seattle before his lease ran out, but it's too late and he has to return the car to Chaplins (Bellevue, right?). Is it going to be a big hassle buying the car from them? Are they going to charge out the wazoo for it? It's a 2000 RS coupe, I hope they don't make it too expensive.

We picked up a new '02 RS from Carter two weeks ago (500 miles to go on the break-in ). Had a very good buying experience with Nik Forte as our salesman. Ended up getting the car for $695 over invoice (+ trailer hitch & bike rack at invoice) and got a great trade in on our '95 Mazda Millenia. In addition to getting the new RS, we also managed to get them to ante up a free loaner for our '01 VDC that we purchased from Melody's in Kirkland - we weren't impress with their service at all and were very happy to take our service business to Carter. I can definitely recommend them to anyone in the Seattle area looking for a Suby...

Default RS Coupe at Chaplin's

What color is the RS Coupe yo'ure looking for? They have 1 blue RS coupe left, 20k miles, perfect body. Pretty damn nice.

They're asking 18,995 for it..

Someone flew in all the way from Utah to pick up the other RS Coupe we had. Only RS Coupe in the state to have factory leather. Guy who traded it was a Subaru rep. The car was messed anyways tho.

If you are seriously looking to buy it, PM me, I'll get you a sweet deal.

So let me know what you're looking for and I'll hook you up!

I pre ordered and bought my 07 STi Ltd new off Joe Spitz. He was great to work with, he helped me with importing it into Canada and even organized having someone to clear bra it for me before I picked it up.

I also dealt with the parts department at the same time and gave them 2 months noticed on the parts I wanted at pick up at the time of the deleivery of the car. I gave them my CC so they could order everything in and sure enough when it came time they were not all in! The funny thing is Joe warned me not to get mad at him if anything goes wrong with that part of the transaction. And sure enough he was right.

I have recommended several people to deal with Joe Spitz but I have yet to see any check's for referalls. I don't really care for I would rather some one have a nice and easy transation then deal with some dealer ship like Walkers Renton Subaru now they are bad.
