Geting the '04 STi tomorow.Meeting at Bank's dors:) !Any precautions, things to look..
(ESL-student...)
Ok, deceided to get the '04 STi. Has 21,400mi on it, agreed on $25,000, is that a good price, or should i go lower... Something like that. Its a second owner car, which bugs me! Isnt that strange at that low milage, especially, when the 2nd owner has it for like 300-400miles !!! Im like WHAAT!!? The guy is 42 y.o. He sais, that he has too many cars, and that this car was bought for fun-drive, but he never can get to it since he has an Accord to drive to/from work... bla-bla-bla... Kinda suspicious... The car looks pretty clean... The only things i've noticed are: - THE engine OIL, is somewhy above the limit(upper point, but it was measured after we drove like 7mi in a kinda spirited manner). Does that really matter? Also, than i noticed that the whole engine was cleaned and waxed, BUT, there were wome oily, maybe not OILy(he said, that the dealer said.... its the wax, protective screen for the parts under the hood). Also the "OILy-WAX" didnt really smell like OIL. It was colorless... Any ideas?..suggestions? - Has 2 or 3 small almost unvisible scuffs on the trunk, already touched-up. - 1 small dent on drivers back fender, above back left wheel Also has the JVC cd-player , not really sure MP3 or not. Its the nice one, that changes colors... Has big pixels thou... The one u can download ur pictures in, i think... I was gonna buy it about 1.5 yrs ago...w/e... We wonna take it to a mechanic tomorrow to check it out, someone knows of a good one in Chicago, near Cicero, MIlwaukee and Irving Park? Or is it better to bring in to the Subaru Dealership, for them to diagnost it or something..? Also......suspicious is that he has a 4gauge wire running from the battery to the trunk. This means that there were at least 2*12subs !! BTW, how do i check if the car was on a track? Maybe some specific things to look at? Guys, any help would be appretiated! Get a PPI done before you hand over the cash, don't forget a leakdown test, and at least a compression test.

Where are you located? Maybe one of our more knowledgable subaru peoples could go with you to check out the car too.

My 02 has 35K miles, now that's low mileage. 21K miles in 1 year is a lot of miles. That's not a low mileage car...
You're rather articulate for ESL. Also, when you see the mechanic, just ask for a leakdown or comrpession test. ppi = pre-purchase inspection. Last edited by thesmokingman; 08-18-2005 at 04:47 PM. Reason: grammar police warning |

I'd be very careful here. I also think the price is too high. Check Kbb.com for a frame of ref. Consider just above trade-in value.
As for track, autox, check for excessive outer edge wear on the tires. Could just be spirited backroad driving, but it's an indication of how it was treated. Cleaned and polished engines always make me suspicious. Be wary. |
