Hey all. Just got myself a new car so I though I would share it with you. It is my daily driver but I have a bunch of parts laying around so the plan is to do as much as I can and not spend more then $3k to get there (not including the car).

Bought the car a few weeks ago off eBay. Its a 1999 Legacy GT Limited 30th Anniversary w/ a stick and its black. Basically exactly what I wanted and only $3500. Had just under 140k miles but the head gaskets and rear main seal were already swapped. Got the car from Maryland so the underside does look like a ship wreak but the reason I wanted this car in particular is not only because I think its the best year but its compatible with the tones of WRX/ STi parts I have laying around the shop. Came with some WRX wheels w/ blizzacs so I have a good set of winter wheels.

So here is is the day I broght her home. She is dirty but the paint looks okay. Some dents, couple rust spots, and a borken mirror and headlights but all and all the exterior is about a 6/10. Interior is perfect, kept clean and maintained. Only one small tear in the rear seat. All the electricals work and light up but the sun roof seems to be binding so the headliner will be comming off so I can have a look at that. I give the interior a 9/10.

Engine runs strong, it has a bit of a spudder issue but I think the spark plug wires are for the wrong year. Lots of oxedation and rust but nothing I am not used to when working on an east coast car.

PS: Yes this car looks like crap compaired to everything else surrounding it.

In front up the drive way is the Girodisc EVO X
To the right is a 2003 WRX Swaped Stage 4 w/ VF39 98 Forester
Behind in the Gravel is a SR20DET V-Mounted Widebody Drift AE86
And in the Garage is a 2005 Stage 3 STi

Not all my cars but as you can see sometimes my house is a happenin place.

Okay now on with the mods!

Had a few parts laying around in the shop so this first batch of parts are all freebeez.

K&N WRX Panel Filter
No-Name N/A Intake Pipe
Borla Header
Misc WRX Exhaust Parts
Borla Muffler
No-Name Crank Pulley
Ebay GDB Strut Bar
06 WRX Front + Rear Struts
Front + rear WRX Sway Bars w/ Links
05 LGT Engine Cover

Took the Bottom of the Stock Intake Box and cut it out so I could get more flow into the filter and cut the pipe to work with the stock intake box. Installed the Borla Header and then took off the stock exhaust. It was literally falling apart from the corrosion. Cut the flange off the First cat and bored it out to 2.5" Then I used bends from 1.5 WRX Cat backs to make an exhaust. There is 1 WRX Cat and 1 WRX Resonator connected to the Borla Muffler at the back. It took a bit of time but it is a true 2.5" all the way back with no CEL or other issues. Installed the pulley with some WRX belts I had laying around. car fired right up and sounds really nice. Its not to loud so free way driving is nice and it really gave it a nice power gain.

Next it was time to tackle the suspension. I had some concerns about the corrosion causing me problems but all the bolts came out fine, I just had to cut the mounts to get the brake lines out. Sways came out fine. So for the suspension I wanted the lower the car but I didn't know how far. We put the struts on one side and set it down and it was about .5" higher so about the same once it settled and I wanted about 1.5" - 1.75" drop. I decided to cut the springs. I know I know what all of you are thinking and I know, I am not a fan of cut springs but I had them there and I though what the hell we'll give it a try. So I pulled the struts apart and cut one coil out of the springs. Thats about 1.5" shorter; cut the bump stops down about an inch even though one coil isn't enough to bottom it out. After that I put the strut back together and tack welded the spring to the strut at the end so the spring wound't walk. Put everything back together and the car has perfect stance. After driving it I was surprised, no clunks, no binding, very smooth ride, and it handles great.

For the strut bar there was some work to be done. The GDB strut bar was a little wider and the bolt holes don't match up but it was free and I had time.

I then took the end pieces and cut the mounts off them so that i could Alain them on the car.

Then I set the bar and tack welded the tabs to the mounts.

Finish welding and paint.

And wala, a crappy $30 strut bar and 1hr of work. Yeah it might have been smarter to just get the right bar but this was free.

So now its on to the exterior. I wanted something that looks nice and subtle so I went on ebay and saw the JDM projector headlights and red/ clear taillights. They were a little price so I didn't know if I wanted to just replace my bashed headlight with a stocker. Went to go pick up a part for a friend at a wrecking yard and I couldn't believe what I saw. A munched Legacy with the JDM tails, I ran to the front desk and got them for $100 after tax. SCORE! No cracks, no leaks and they look great.

So here are the pics of how everything turned out. These also have my little project and I don't know if its going to fly but I decided to try and modify a 05 LGT engine cover. I like the way it looks but after I finished it up and paint it we'll see. I like how it covers all the nasty engine crap though.

Things to come:

Got some JDM Projector Headlights from a guy in Canada for $80.00 so I am going to pick them up this weekend and black the inside of them out. Also I got some wheels on the way.

18x8.5 +38 Falken Hanabi wheels in silver w/ 225/40/18 tires. Wheels were $133.00 a wheel and the tires are coming off an old set of wheels I had. 70% tread. I will have to roll and stretch the fenders a bit so after they are on maybe I'll be part of the herra frush crew.

Here is a pic of them:

I have some interior projects as well. Painted black interior, all red lighting, WRX steering wheel etc...

For the brakes we are going to do the JDM 4 Pots with some of our new 06 WRX 2pc rotors once they are finished and an H6 Upgrade in the rear. SS Lines, and Magic Pads.

Couple exterior projects include some EVO X hand-me-downs. Going to get rid of the stock antenna since it dosen't retrack and run an EVO X Antenna on the roof and I have a GSR wing (not the EVO huge wing but the little one on the base model). Custom Modified Grill, eye lids, and a nice buff to help shine the paint up. I might also paint the wheels black but we'll see after I put them on.

Wheels come in next week so stay tuned....

Being a "limited", this car has leather seats, right ?

You don't find yourself sliding about on top of the seats and bouncing off the headliner when driving the car aggressively ?

ou don't want to see the underside. The under coating is all intact and the unibody is relitivly rust free. However everything that was black e-coated; Crossmembers, driveshaft, diff case etc.. are cover in rust. Plan it to replace parts as needed with new unrusted pieces but here in the NW the corossion should progress nerly as fast as before.

It is a limited with leather seats and I didn't really notice the slidding. I just took it out for a spireted drive with a couple of my freinds on crotch rockets but its still has blizzaks on it so any slidding I might expeince is dampened by the crappy tires. I am pretty happy with the way the car handles.

Got a new spoiler painted and put on but it makes the WRX wheels look even dumber so I wait to post pics of it till I get the wheels on. JDM headlights, HIDs, and a new grill should be on this week so the front end should be finished.

Very nice!

Love these cars. The rust is a nuisance, but I can't get enough of how they look.

My '97 has leather and I experience little or no sliding.

Yeah if I ever take it to the track or take it out from some heavy spirited driving I'll make my self a little pad out of that non-slide cell phone mat and sit on it.

Wheels should be here today or tomorrow and headlights will be here Thursday.

I wish but I like less then a mile from work and its pretty much a strait line to get there. Maybe after I get some good tires I'll start taking it the long way home.

OMG, this will probably end up being all I want my Liberty to be. How did you attach the LGT cover? Did it bolt on steady?

Yeah I just made a couple tabs that came off the A/C condenser and P/S pump. The rear mount I got by extending the stock air box mount. Pretty easy. I still have a bit of trimming to do and I need to shine up the engine bay and POR15 some of that nasty rust but yeah it came out pretty nice. I think it one of those love it or hate it things.

Found some more parts in the garage. Got a nice battery tie down, and STi oil Cap. I found an extra radio so I am going to attempt to change it to red LED lighting and if it works out I'll do the whole car. I want the interior to look like an Audi with the little red illumination in the cluster and all the HVAc controls and maybe some ambient lighting in the door handles and space under the ash tray. Taking all the nasty wood grain trim out of it today to have painted a dark gunmetal gray, and I think I am going to make my headliner black since the grey has some grese marks on it.

Yeah I hear ya. I really like this car, I mean I know why but I have driven 550whp widebody WRX wagon, 300whp forester, 400whp EVO X and I just love driving this car.

Luckily for me I have all this crap laying around or this car would have half the things on it. I'll be diving into the brakes soon. Girodisc wants to do some 2pc WRX rotors for 06-07 so I'm going to get some calipers can we'll be doing the prototyping on the Lego.

In the future I see ether cams, and tunning or STi block and custom supercharger but we'll see what happens. For now we'll stock with the cheap mods.

Update:

Wheels are delayed so I won't see them till Monday.

And the guy didn't ship the Headlights till yesterday so I won;t see those till Monday as well.

But I should be able to get started on doing my red interior lighting, get my Carbon e-brake handle on. Custom Short Shifter, STi Pedals, and Custom Painted Gunmetal Trim done so at least it won't be a total loss. I might pressure wash my engine bay and start treating some of that rust and finish up my 05 LGT cover. Might even have my custom grill painted as well.

So I finally got my wheels and I could wait so I rolled the fenders and through them on. Still waiting on my headlights should be here any day and my interior is in shambles but when its done I'll have some good projects to show you. Finally I can show off the EVO X wing. Looks a lot better now that the wheels are one. Still contemplating painting the wheels black so if you have any opinions on the matter I am all ears. Camber in the front is a little to much so I am going to straiten it out a bit.

On to pics. These are 18x8.5 +38 Falken Hanabis on 225/40/18s

Yeah I am working on my new custom grill now and I think I am going to lower it another 1/2" or so but I haven't decided for sure yet. Also Some Black out JDM Headlights and eyelids and maybe one of those cheap garage lip thingies.
