Default How do I screw in the front license plate on a 2013 Impreza?

This might seem like a stupid question but how do you screw in the front plates? There are two pre-drilled holes in the front of my fender but it doesn't get screwed in. Do I have to put something in it before screwing it in?

http://www.cars101.com/subaru/imprez...portfront3.JPG

I checked the rear plates and took off the screw, it had some white plug stud thing in it to screw the screw on.

I have a front plate bracket that the dealer installed. I'd look for one of those. I'm guessing the install is easy.

The dealer screwed the plate right into the front bumper. I had no licence plate bracket. Kind os wierd I say, but now that the holes are there, I'm not making more.

You either buy the bracket that uses those holes or you find the two dimples nearby and screw directly into the bumper there, as I recall.

Mine's screwed directly to the bumper. The bracket probably looks nicer, but meh...

Got direct mount plate too. No way in heck am I paying what the dealer wants for the "genuine Subaru" part. Plus I like the weight savings. I'll just buy some license plate frames to replace the dealer ones and be done with it when my permanent plates come in. Making pilot holes in the dimples would should make things easier if you go that route.

I'd wager you could buy the bracket and do it yourself. Mine was on there before I bought the car.

Yeah but the thing is I want to install this Bump Shox XL thing which doesn't allow me to add an additional braket.

Actually the shox XL can mount on top of the Subaru License Plate Bracket. My car comes with the Subaru plate bracket. I added the Shox Xl on top of it. it works well, and added that extra inch from people backing up into me.

Can you upload a picture of how it looks?

I want to know how does the bumpshox xl actually attaches to the subaru license plate bracket. Are there another pair of holes for the bumpshox xl?

Can you post a picture of how yours look like?

I'm thinking if it will look weird or stand out too much if I add both to it...but I don't want to just add the bumpshox and nothing on the back to secure it from people bending my plate.

the holes at the front of the car are fro japaneese license plate.
you would need a Totsubo Subaru Front License Plate Kit if you were using those holes plenty of threads on nasioc about them and any pitfalls you may encounter.

Other option drilling holes into bumper the same way it is done in most cars, if you don't need a front license plate then you can just use a plate delete.

Actually you don't need any fancy brackets. Go to Home Depot and pick up a couple well nuts (http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo...s/WellNuts.png). I don't remember the right diameter exactly, but they're super cheap. Try a few out and see what holds it. Also for this you would need to drill holes in your plate (since the bumper holes don't match US license plate holes), but that's better than drilling the bumper.

Yeah I just realized the pre-drilled holes does not match my license plate's holes. Is it legal to drill the license plate? I mean it is still DMV's property...

I seriously doubt it as long as you don't do something that obscures the plate. Thing is, if you decide to put a frame around the plate nothing is going to line up with the new holes. Just food for thought.

When I wrecked my car in the front many years ago, I had to use the same bent up New York tag. I don't think anybody will mess with you. They recycle them anyway.

Here you go. The one i have is not XL, the XL version will be a little bigger. But you should get the plate guard before installing the BumpShox, since it requires 4 mounting holes. The back and front bumpers are made with some very soft plastic, any contact will leave a mark or dent. I had one small dent in my back bumper in less than 2 days. But after I installed the BumpShox on the front and Bumper Bully mat on the back, so far so good.

What I didn't like about the SOA342L120 was that there are two bumps on the back of the plate, so if a bad parking driver hits me the two bumps would either damage the screws or dig the bumps deeper into my car.

http://www.brandsport.com/sub-soa342l120.html

I like the DCOLICBRKIMP12 cause it's all around, so even if a bad parker hit me it would not damage or strip the two screws holding everything together.
