Nice explanation, but I don't drive like that at all. 09-11 Wrx with $1,000 into it (AcessPort, springs, Downpipe, and Swaybars) is faster and more for daily driving.
Sti is great though. |

yeah I agree with that, not to say I wouldn't rather have an sti, but i think the advantages would be wasted on me 99.5% of the time

If they offered the WRX with the 6 speed I probably wouldn't have an STI. I think Subaru realizes this though But, I love my car and don't have any regrets at all.
Also, if you are getting an AP, springs, swaybars and a downpipe for $1000, you're buying used or cheap parts :P |

and brembos and LSDs grow on trees. STi is a far better platform hands down. But I agree, the STi would be a waste for most people who ONLY daily drive in rush hour traffic and have zero intentions of hitting WOT or driving spiritedly.

It would be interesting to take a novice driver and let them do some laps with both cars and then compare times

So you're assuming people with WRX's will never go WOT or driver spiritedly? You don't need an STi for either of those.

You missed my point, im saying you're missing out unless you never hit WOT or drive spiritedly, so saying an STi is waste would be true unless ^^ which is where the differences get brought out between the 2

I disagree; the track is where the differences become apparent. I don't think you'll notice much of a difference when blasting up an on-ramp or a quick highway pull when no one's around.

It's just a car. A more expensive car. In an ideal world, you only buy a vehicle for what you need - in the real world, some people buy a vehicle for what you want
Otherwise, there'd be no need for Porsches, Ferraris, or Bugattis - they do things that almost no person would ever need. But for some reason I still want one... |

Even then thats a waste...If you're not going to put those brakes to good use (autocross, track) then you aren't getting your monies worth. Driving like an ass hat in commuting traffic does not warrant an Sti |

This is a good thread to ask this question.
I am coming from a GTO and at first look primarily at the STi. My buddy who purchased a 2010 WRX swears by the fact that the bang for your buck lies in the WRX. The GTO was a pretty simple bolt-on car. Air intake, full exhaust + headers, and the rest was cosmetic (never saved up for a cam). Is getting a WRX something I should consider or should i continue to research STi's only. The car will be a DD but I love driving. I will purposely go out and just drive, and not always in a straight line. |

If you plan to mod the hell out of it, the STI is the better place to start. Im looking for an STI so i can run a nice EWG FP Green set up. I know i could do bigger and blah blah blah, but an FP Green is what i want to run. |

Good video - I wish I new more about the differences between the STI hatch and sedan, aside from the 5 vs. 4-door design. For instance, does the sedan have sharper handling characteristics? I like the look of the hatch more, but I would put overall performance ahead of looks. I know engine and transmission wise, they're identical.

The WRX offers plenty of performance for most folks. If you track your car or rally race it, then go for the STi. |
