Default 2005 STI transmission whine

Hi, I have my 05 sti in the shop for a transmission whine, it has 70k miles the shop claims they have reduced the whine quite a bit by replacing all bearings in the rear, suposedly the only bearing left is in a center differential that is destroyed once opened and subaru does not stock this part? Apparently the sound is coming from the transfer case, sorry if I'm all over the place here but the shop has taken out my transmission like two times and in those two times they did not fully disassemble the transmission only replacing bearings. Is there something they might have possibly missed or something I could bring up or suggest? I have a third party warranty that will cover the work but if nothing is broken or clearly worn then they won't cover the labor to teardown again but there has to be something causing that sound. Just throwing some guesses out there what could it be, and what could go wrong if just ignored. Thanks

I don't know much as to be able to help you but what does it sound like and when do you hear it? I've had a 05 legacy gt and now I have 08 spec b and both had a whine in first and second gear and nowhere else.

Since you mentioned a warranty, I'm assuming you recently bought the car, was the noise already there when you bought it?

it was a feint whining/ringing sound you'd hear at 5th/6th, the sound came after my engine was rebuilt about 5k miles ago at dealer. After a bunch of mishaps at dealer i decided to bring to subaru specialist independent shop they pulled the transmission twice, replaced a few toasted bearings, still made the noise they pulled it out again apparently replacing all rear bearings, with an improvement but still some noise. My warranty covered the repair, but the shop has given up on doing anything else because there are parts supposedly can't be bought or replaced? My warranty runs out in spetember (3 months) i bought the car in 2016
