Thumbs up OMG...workout folk: crossfit kicked my butt today

First time I've done one...and of course I'm set with one of the brutal ones.

http://www.crossfit.com/mt-archive2/001097.html

For time:
50 Box jump, 24 inch box
50 Jumping pull-ups
50 Kettlebell swings, 1 pod
Walking Lunge, 50 steps
50 Knees to elbows
50 Push press, 45 pounds
50 Back extensions
50 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball
50 Burpees
50 Double unders

I was ready to throw up twice and stopped sweating about 3/4 in.

For the record...I did most of the above only 25 times each, for the kettlebell it was a 35lb bell, for the wall ball I only used a 12 pound ball.

Worst/best workout of my life.

I'm too afraid to try it, got an ex-coworker that now is an instructor at the local Crossfit joint. Those folks are in great shape though.

Well, remember I did about 1/2 of what the real one above calls for. My time was around 48 minutes, with probably 15 of it resting.

Sharkie,

Check out www.crossfit.com for more info and videos. It's pretty brutal stuff.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but the workouts I've looked at have people reporting their times between 3-15-20 mins. Not to make this sound easy, but is this all they do? I know the exercises are hard and all, but working out hard for 5mins a day is only going to get you so far.

What am I missing?

The second I in HIIT is INTENSITY.

The Crossfit workouts as written (prescribed) are extremely challenging and have always put me in my place every time I do one (not that often).

I second DrDrum, come to the 2008 Fitness thread.

I've posted 'once or twice' in the fitness thread. Its just a different concept and I don't think it works with what I'm training for right now.

I agree - I don't know that its really applicable to what you tend to focus on. On the flip side, adding one of these workouts every now and then might be a nice change of pace, or a replacement for a speed training day or something.

you know it, just by a different name. Instead of doing it for fitness, south africans do it by necessity, and usually they dont enjoy it. Its called carjacking avoidance there, and it utilizes many of the same movements, but in a more realistic, real world manner: a sprint to the car, boulder heave to perps face instead of kettlebell swing, box jump up and over the hood of the car, burpee as you retrieve your dropped keys, etc.

Typical response for someone that hasn't tried it. Fitness doesnt have to mean 5-15 reps with 3-5 minute breaks between sets. Some people take 50 minutes to do Fran, some people can rip thru it in under 3 minutes cause theyre absolute machines. Both are taxed at the end.

Try it. Look up Fran and give it ago.

For the newbies I suggest scaling. http://forum.brandxmartialarts.com/v...a9cdcec3157228

just remember, Crossfit isnt powerlifting, it isnt bodybuilding. If youre a curls for the girls type of guy, its probably not for you.
