Maybe it won't be sedan exclusive? If I had a time machine, right after I got done using it to make myself filthy rich I'd take a look at what the finished product of all these concepts and teasers wound up looking like and would know whether to keep my car for another 2 years or ditch it now.

Not in the case of the VA STI, but then again I don't remember having any strong feelings about either the concept or how the actual production car varied from it. Of course, the only variation from concept to production that I'm interested in this time is body style, not so much styling cues.

I highly doubt Subaru will do anything other than make the wrx/sti out of the impreza greenhouse. I think there's a chance they ditch the levorg and go back to a wrx hatch as suggested by the leaked photo in this thread, but highly doubt we'll see that as a true STI model... perhaps an "sti sport" trim, but it likely won't get full STI treatment (engine, transmission).

The SGP Impreza is a sedan not a sport liftback. Can't see Subaru going with a third entirely new body style for the STI. Not when the BRZ is due for a new generation around the same time. Unless Subaru is merging the two...

Yeah, just how versatile is the SGP, how many configurations could it allow for i wonder

That one just seems to say they need a new ECU supplier. Not that they are getting someone else to develop the next gen. Or my translation is bad. |

They have signed an agreement with IBM to use theyr Watson computer for it. There is some info that they contacted Autoliv. Two extant radars in front multiplys data.

Ah. My worry was one of the articles saying they were going to shop out the development. This is just using a new supplier with a better ECU, right? Subaru still does the leg work? |

**IF THIS IS THE RETURN OF THE WRX HATCH HERE AND NOT A NEW MODEL**
Does the time line work where they could show this car in early March of 2018 and it become available by June of 2019? I think most of us expect the 2020 WRX will be the new SGP Impreza sport shell with some flared fenders, a hood scoop, a spoiler, wider tires, and same 2.0L DIT engine currently used, right? (Thats about all it would take for me to be sold) Its almost just a trim upgrade from the Impreza except for fender flares/hood scoop body changes.. I don't understand the logic behind people saying Fall 2019 or 2020 for the makeover as if a new car is being made like the ascent. I guess the STI could hold up the WRX... if they always released together? I'm really wanting to upgrade to a performance hatch or wagon on the SGP BEFORE my 7 year warranty is up on my 2012 WRX in June 2019. I think I have a lingering hidden expensive issue that is going to pop up when I am off warranty. After driving a 2017 Impreza I dont want to put my money into a old platform WRX - it was too good in the handling and looks dept. |

MtnX - that sounds right to me. 2020 model year, sticking with Subaru's typical 3rd to 4th quarter release, you'd see it late summer/early fall of 2019.
And I completely agree, you'll see an impreza greenhouse with a few tweaks in the fenders, hood, bumper, and lights. I think this tourer concept is going to end up being the hatchback. Look at the brightened photo, and the D-pillar and rear window... almost perfectly aligns with the size/shape of the new impreza hatchback, hinting that this will not be a wagon like the Levorg, and therefore more likely to hit US shores. FA20 seems likely for the wrx. Who knows with the STI, but I think there's enough development happening around the FA to suggest that's the new direction. Either way, I've all but 100% convinced myself that I've moved on. Subaru held out for just long enough for me to seriously consider the other options out there and shift my thinking. If they had kept the hatch, I'd probably be just drooling over some of the cleanly modified versions, ignoring the other competitors out there, and perhaps have already bought a new hatch. But at this point, I'm done with the juvenile looks of the wrx/sti. The concept photo of the sti just reinforces it. Subaru is going to take the styling of the wrx/sti another notch towards the fast and furious days of the 90's, and that's not what I want at this point in my life. I puked a little when I opened this page of this thread. |

Take that wing and shove it. Make the lower rear some semblance of sophisticated... lose the F&F BS. Do something with those Look-at-me, aurally gutless, ersatz "menacing" exhausts... But since this is a concept, any production version would trend some of those changes or options for... or it had better if they want a wider acceptance audience. |

the previous WRX concept for the 2015 model had grapefruit shooter exhausts as well.

Most of the obnoxious stuff will likely not make it to production. The wing though, 100% chance that makes it.

There is a LARGE contrast between the most recent STI concept and the last one (granted wrx not sti, but similar idea), and this contrast lends me to believe that Subaru will be following Honda here.

And thanks for not making me feel as old as I thought... although the car trends that showed up in the 2001 movie started in the 90's... |

Isn't this the Tourer thread? Isn't there already a Viziv Performance STi thread? Thought this one was for the next Levorg world market car.

The rear door line is clearly visible. This looks to be a hatchback not a d pillar wagon. I’m throwing the STI concept images into this thread to show the likely sides as they are probably the future STI/WRX sedan and hatchback models. Just painting a bigger picture...and the other thread went and got itself closed. |

Agreed. I hadn't really taken the time to compare the two concepts. It really does look like a hatch. Fingers commence crossing until Geneva. We already have a Impreza/Crosstrek. So this will def be the new WRX/STi/Levorg hatch/wagon variant. 2019 can't come soon enough.

We don't have long to wait right, March 5th? I'm starting to get antsy.
