Default easiest way to hook up push button ignition?

I was wondering what the easiest way to hook up a push button ignition. If anyone can help that would be cool. I hooked one up in my eclipse, but I was wondering if there is a better way to do it on a wrx...

Since you dont have a chip in your key, it would be pretty much exactly the same way youwired it up in your eclipse.

How did you have it wired up before anyways? Did you wire in a relay to disable voltage to the button once the car was running, or was it just wired in as a momentary circuit on your starter lead?

You could always buy the Zero Sports one - it's plug and play.

I was thinking about that too, but I have a free button I used in a previous car. I was wondering if the zero sports one would interfere with my turbo timer plug and play harness though?

what is the point of this. You still have to have the key in the ignition and turned to the on position. I dont get it

I thought it was a good idea until I saw that you have to have your key in it.

it is pretty pointless.

the easiest way to do it would be to tap into your starter wire and run that to one side of the button. then run the other side of the button to a switched +12v. you would want to use a switched +12v so it can't be cranked without the key in. make sure you fuse the wire.

again, i think this is pretty pointless.

Its the bling factor guys...

Its just something different.

Its like having a racing seat vs stock. If you are the only one that drives your car, you still sit in the same position.

No big deal...

a racing seat serves several purposes over the stock seat. this is more like putting the night rider led thing on the front of your car.

you could always run the button as a button that would allow the car to run or not IE theft detterent device.

cut the ignition wires, run them to the on/off button, when button is off car will not start no matter what and when the button is on car will start fine

did something like this with my 96 mustang, cept with the fuel pump... I could turn off my car while driving! lol cept it would run lean. good way to clear out the lines though, also unless someone knew what the switch did they had no clue how to start the car

a "racing" seat being beneficial to a "racer" in a "race", exactly. most people on here that have racing seats do infact track their car. go roll your eyes somewhere else.

skate enjoi - everyone is just putting their 2 cents in, just like myself, i find it kinda silly. i mean, you still have to put the key in and turn it to the on position.

i think i gave you some ok info on how to do it, if it made any sense. to help you out some more, these should be the wire colors for your car at the ignition harness. the plug you used for your turbo timer, each plug should have different colors in it. these are the colors for both sides of the plug as dei gives.

starter - black/yellow to white/black
constant +12v - black/white to whote
acc(+12v switched) - black/blue to yellow

just make sure you test the wires first with a meter and use a fuse.

Look, The Cheat
Before you get all wrapped around the axel, I was merely suggesting the analogy that
racing seats to most only serve a limited purpose. Day to day they just hold your ass in
place and don't do much more than stock hardware. That doesn't make them bad or
good, just bling when you go to the quickie mart to get a slushee.

A starter button is just bling unless you push it. Does it get you +5 hp? of course not!!
Its just something different. Just chill with the "Racing seats are serious bidness"
attitude.

Not necessary...

What? Seats are essentially a functional mod before anything else... The added bolstering keeps you from flying through the doors during cornering... especially functional upgrade if you're coming from a TS or usdm STI

A push button start just adds an additional step to starting your car... I think its pretty cool in the S2000 though

I agree but only if you are actually rolling through the corners at a really good clip. The average guy doesn't take every corner like Michael Schumacher, necessitating the need for racing seats (or harnesses for that matter) day to day unless they race every day (in which case you are not the average guy ).

[forestgump] That's all I have to say about that. [/forestgump]
