The ECM was reflashed prior to the install of the intake. So far the MPG's have been reflecting nice numbers. I'm approaching 3 weeks since the last fill up and still over over a 1/4 tank of gas. I'd probably have more but I have been having a little fun with the throttle. I think I'll have a better idea once I fill up again and the computer has adjusted to the change in airflow. What I like about the setup is that I can add a cold air section down the road. Just need to get a MAF tube.

Did the car behave differently after the ECM update with the 5-speed manual? My car has an April 2012 build date. Do you think I already have the update?

Yes, there was quite a noticeable improvement in acceleration from a stop. Prior to the ECM flash, the car seemed to bog down before the rpm's caught up. Now there is no hesitation. As far as your car having the updated flash, I would have no idea, sorry.

The closest comparison I can think of would be like having a super heavy flywheel. If you let out the clutch and give it gas, it takes second or two to build momentum and then it seems fine, although I did notice a bit of hesitation between shifts which is now gone after the new update. Prior to the update, when I was stopped at a light for example, I would have to increase the revs to about 2k for the car to accelerate properly. If not, and this happened on a number of occasions, all the lights on the dash would come on as if the car was going to stall.

I'm guessing I already have this update, because I don't experience these symptoms.

Is there a Subaru web site that allows a customer to enter a VIN and see what recalls/TSBs are due for the car?

You can check this website for recalls:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...callsearch.cfm

You can also create an account at mysubaru.com where you should be able to get the TSB's and service records for your car. You'll need your VIN number for this.

You can also check this websiteL http://www.automd.com/ although there is nothing yet listed for the 2012 Impreza.

This is exactly what my car does (except the lights, I'll have to look next time to see what it does), and I don't want to have to drop the clutch at 2-2.5k every light just to get going. I'll bring your shot of the invoice to the dealer and mention this thread to see what they can do. This issue is even worse if you've got the A/C on and are headed uphill at 6500 ft above sea level, so hopefully they can just do what they did to your car.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that your dealership is able to perform the re-flash. You'll definitely notice the improvement.

You are correct, leds for the drls and 6k hid for the headlights.

You ever get around with taking a picture on how your lights look at night?
Also, pictures of the ground to show light output.

DRL only

HID only

HID/Fog lights

Thanks!

Searching online for some LED for the DRL and foglights. Anyone know of pictures or difference between LED and High Power LED? What would you recommend?

I know little about LED's so some knowledge would be great.

I believe for our purposes, i.e. swapping out incandescent bulbs for led's...referring to them as High power led's is somewhat of a misnomer. True high power led's, those 7.5w and higher require a heat sink to dissipate heat. It's not the led itself that causes the heat but rather the circuitry. As far as recommending which is would be better....standard led's should be more then sufficient. If you search on Ebay, you can get an idea of what's available.

Can you tell me your build date of the vehicle. Mine was Feb of 2012. I have noticed the stall issue but i thought that was just me and how i was driving the car. I have since adjusted to it but better throttle response would always be welcomed.

Not sure of the build date but I bought my car in January.

Here are the pics. I apologize for the quality. Only have a point and shoot but I think you'll get the idea. Haven't had the opportunity to splurge on a DSLR yet.

The first pic is the LED strip that is just behind the black plastic fog light housing. These are on all the time.

This next picture shows the light output from the 7.5w 9005 LED's. I would say that these are high power led's. The "bulb" portion surrounding the LED's is a metal heat sink.

Here is the front view of the DRL's only

Here is the shot of the HID's

Here is HID's with fog lights. The fogs don't provide that much additional light that is why there is a difference in the angle that the picture was taken.

Was it just a straight up warranty claim? I was just planning to call my dealership and listing off the symptoms you had mentioned and asking for an ECU re-flash. I hope my dealer isn't anal about the mods I've done to my car because I've yet to visit the dealership since I bought my car. I changed my oil and filter myself.

Yes, this was strictly a warranty claim.

Thank you! I was trying to figure out what the heck Subaru did with the flywheel myself. I'm experiencing this exact problem. Never would I have thought of an ECU flash. I'll be calling & setting up an appointment soon!

I took my car to Irvine Subaru in Southern California. That is where I bought my car. If you happen to call them, you'll want to ask for Claire in the service dept.
