6th gear --> 'overdrive' equivalent gear AKA highway cruising gear AKA getting better gas mileage than 5th @ highway speeds gear

congrats on the car.

Default Mod List...

I would do some more investigation on every mod before you do it.

planned mods:
blitz NUR spec exhaust (sitting at friends house)
helix DP/UP (As above STI = Catless (lucky bastard) hehe
borla header/ thermotec heatwrap (Not sure on this one, money could be better spent elsewhere.)
forge motorsport BOV (Again more of a bling item, I own a WRX so I am not sure if it is the same but they can cause some issues)
utec (Blessing and a Curse, unless you are going to put in all the gauges A/F EGT, Boost, ect... I would go with EcuTek)
cusco strut bars (IMHO money could be better spent elsewhere)
whitline steering rack bushing
kenwood dvd (have) (To each his own, just weight in my eyes)
sparco fighters (have) (If they are lighter than factory, sure , but again money could be spent elswhere, to each his own.)

I might suggest:

Prodrive springs
Larger rear swaybar
Not sure on the Nur spec (don't care to look up) but I would definately have a 3" TBE on an STI. Mine is 2.5" on my WRX and I wish I had a 3"
Good Tune (ECUtek or other, Not a huge fan of Utec but I see it's flexibility)
I have seen the APS CAI used on the STI with a custom tune to good effect.

Perhaps save all the bling cash and get one of Kingpin's GT-30/35 kits or an FP-Green turbo. Again I have not done a lot of research into those turbos I just have a baby VF-34.

Well either way enjoy, I am forever green with envy over that tranny and torque/brakes.

</IMHO>

i would do a lot of research on any aftermarket part for your car. The STI is already an outstanding car and i wouldn't want you to do anything that could have a negative consequence. also a personal note, try to keep as much of your factory warranty as long as you can. I would stay simply 3'' turbo back and reflash. Congrats on your new ride you will love it. be safe and drive hard

I agree.

I think the car is pretty outstanding right out of the box.
Drive the car for a while and get to know it before you start changing things.
Sometimes the best money spent is on track days/driver instruction.
Not a flame, but most people (myself included) could use driver improvement before they can truly take this car to the limits of it's abilities. Once you have progressed beyond the abilities of the car then start adding power mods.
BOV is a waste of money....save your cash.

i agree, good mods... if you have the money. i say leave an STI as stock as possible for the first couple months you have the car. try to get use to it like BEER:30 said spend money in driver lessons also, driving a turboed sooby is something to get used to.

Agreed on the uppipe - keep yours as is. It's already catless, so it's coo.

Is that a typo or you really have a brand new 2004 STi? Do you realize you just lost so much on depreciation the minute you drove off your brand new 2004 in 2005? I hope you had a good deal and how many miles on the odometer if you don't mind me asking.

BTW, welcome and congrats. Don't use the 6th gear!

How much did you get it for? They must have discounted it some seeing how its a leftover from the 05 release. Does the 04 have the manually adjustable Torque distribution? What did they do for 05 over the 04? Lastly, what lot did you get it from and did they have anymore 05's

Congrats!

Both 04 and 05 have the DCCD. Differences in 05 is mainly interior IIRC, I know it is on WRXs. If you've ever been in a WRX you know the wierd cupholder situation. Now it's all been taken care of in a nice sleek silver dash. Also there are some changes in the chassis I believe but I'm not cool enough to tell you what they are or what they do.

ok first the 6th gear thing was a joke!

the DVD and the Sparco fighters i have left over from last car and i like them.

ok so NO uppipe, and also i'm getting that exhaust for like nothing cuz its used from a friend so i will be getting that for now. also i meant to have Tein Flex coilovers on there too. i will defenitely look carefully at all mods tho first b4 i buy and most likely ask for opinions if i can't find them on here already.

o ya and NO i didn't pay MSRP (or even close) and it is brand new, also in Canada u lose major cash no matter what when u buy a car, just in taxes
