Scooby having problems!!
I think that the mixture is rich but i'm not sure. I changed the spark plugs a couple months ago. and the symptoms have just gotten worse.
Rough idle with stalling low idle speed. intermittent choke(i suppose) bad gas mileage. not too good low end power A friend says to change to Ammoco Clear Premium and throw a can of BG intake cleaner in and run the dog doo doo out of it to clean out all the crap that's in there since i run regular unleaded all the time. but I hadn't really noticed the problem until a while after I changed the plugs (Pep Boys NGKs) is that the culpret??? Also still having that drop in power at around 4k RPMs Tune up in order? Thanks so much everyone. Christian

Sounds like you are running lean. Might be a bad O2 sensor. They had a big recall on them.

Take it to the dealer and have them look at the O2 sensor. The part was truly recalled, like with a mass mailing, etc. If you never got the letter and the dealer denies the recall exists, there are a few guys over on the general forum who have been faxing copies of the letter to other members to put nasty dealers in their place.

Before you get all nasty about recall stuff, I should point out that the recall in question only applies to MY'00 cars. At least, that's what the recall letter for our 2000 Outback said.

Did you reset the ECU yet?
Check your wires with a continuity meter to make sure none of them have blown out. Take out the spark plugs, check them for problems, check the threads, check the crush washer (make sure there is still a washer). Check the terminals on the ignition coil, if there are signs of corrosion, clean them and use dielectric grease. Screw the Amoco Ultimate, it does squat for our cars (Amoco Regular works just fine). The fuel injector cleaner is a good idea. Check for the second air filter and make sure it isn't soaked in oil. Hmm, and make sure the crank case breather hoses are all tight (3 of em) against the airbox. [This message has been edited by Revision (edited April 25, 2001).] |

Funny thing was, @ Cherokee Trails, I was told by, who could only be descibed as Juha Kankunnen's clone, told me to use premium always or i'd be sorry in the long run... I guess he knew his stuff cuz he had a Legacy there that had over 200K miles on it.
I know Ammoco Ultimate has lless crap in it cuz it's clear... juat trying to fix the problem... could i have used the wrong plugs??? |

To verify, I got my letter just the other day and yes the recall does NOT apply to the 99s.

have you changed your fuel filter? The flat spot is an unfortunate trait of the 99 RS...an intake cures it though.

well i see two different case with you problem and i encountered them both...hee hee hee...
the rough idle with stall.. does your rev go up and down when idle? lets say from 500 rpm to 1200 rpm? and the car stinks becuase its running a bit rich...you will smell the unburn gas. you will see a heavy carbon build up on the tail pipe. if this happens most likely you have a MAF failure. about your lost of low end power...does you car feel like a vtech all of a sudden? you know once over 4000 it pulls like there is no tomorrow? well if that is the case i would check the knock sensor, you knock sensor might be bad also. are there any check engine light? take it to the dealer and let them take a look at it. i have encounter the problems that you have mentioned ...and mostly likely that might be the problems.. i can be wrong though... but bottom line take it to the dealers. hope this helps good luck michael [This message has been edited by Michael (edited April 26, 2001).] |
