Default 2017 Nissan Maxima

Quote:
2017 Nissan Maxima

Athletic, luxurious, and practical, the highly styled Maxima attempts to do it all.

Mar 2017 By DREW DORIAN Photography By MULTIPLE PHOTOGRAPHERS

C/D Overall Rating:
Long touted by Nissan as a four-door sports car, the Maxima has a firm ride and a brawny V-6 engine to give it a sharper edge than most of its rivals, including the Kia Cadenza and the Toyota Avalon. In reality, it’s an upscale large sedan with competent driving dynamics, and it falls well short of what we’d call sporty or engaging to drive. However, the Maxima boasts plenty of luxury for its price, and the deal is sweetened by a bevy of high-end available features such as quilted seating, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof.

What’s New for 2017?

Having been completely redesigned for the 2016 model year, the Maxima receives minimal updates for 2017. Most notably, Apple CarPlay is now standard on trim levels, allowing iPhone users to connect and control their devices from the Maxima’s 8.0-inch touchscreen. (Android Auto, however, is still missing.) Also new are the Medallion and Dynamic accessory packages. Both include 18-inch aluminum wheels, illuminated doorsills, and a rear spoiler. The Medallion package adds interior and exterior accent lighting, while the Dynamic package offers unique side rocker moldings.

Standard Feature Highlights

• Remote start
• Navigation
• Apple CarPlay
• 18-inch aluminum wheels

Trims and Options We’d Choose

Our enthusiast hearts are drawn to the SR trim level. For $38,655, you get:

• A sport-tuned suspension
• 19-inch aluminum wheels
• Leather seats with faux-suede inserts
• Sport mode for heftier steering and sharper throttle response

We’d also spring for the external ground lighting, which switches on when you unlock the vehicle. At $240, it’s a neat, upscale feature that also adds a bit of security when approaching the vehicle in dark parking lots.2017 Nissan Maxima

the entire car is a complete joke as they market it with FWD and a CVT.

Just give up Nissan and call the barge.

I used to love the Maxima, almost purchased a 2003 6spd manual with LSD. I am shocked people still buy these especially giiven how much of an ugly boat this has become. Would rather put that kind of money towards an A3 or 328i.

Whenever I see Maxima in a thread I think of this and to me its much more desirable than the car. (they have $10k+ incentives, the car not the clams)

You hang in there buddy... You have survived much worse, and dammit you are too damned valued to not be here. I would not still troll N&R if it were not for you.

So get that foot fixed, and come back and keep us updated. I know you will be back 100%

Scrap, the Maxima has proven to be decent with FWD. The original FDSC was quite capable in its day. The CVT needs to go though. Replace it with a manual or a DCT.

AVANTI. Good luck.

NO arguments from me. I have fond memories of quick 4DSC with a manual. THey were quite good looking as well.

Ah yes, the Nissan Wedding Cake. Every time I think I see one of these on the street if turns out to be an Altima. I know they were trying to be edgy with the design of this car, but the whole stacked shapes and curves thing looks awful, and that a opinion applies to all of their sedan offerings.

The Altima grew too much making the maxima have to grow to proportions that it was never meant to have.

They should have made the Maxima RWD, DSG & MT optioned and priced just below Infiniti. Made a sporty 3-series /Quattroformagio/ MBZ competitor. Unrealistic pipe dream, I know, but it beats being a fleet car. As it stands its one of those cars that everyone states is a great car to buy, but never actually buys one. I was a big fan of the Maxima until it turned into the auto-only boat. Years ago I almost pulled the trigger on a 1998 and passed it up for a six speed 2003 that got sold out from under me. Fargain sneaky bastages.

The Maxima, Impala, and Avalon are all in the same boat with their mid-size stablemates getting larger and larger with each generation. I'm not sure how their production is still justified. Is it really fleet sales? I know that's not the case for the Avalon.
