That "WebOS running faster on iPad" thing is bull****. You know that, right?

I figured as much, but also thought it might be slightly faster because it lost the reason behind the sluggishness during the port.

Also the Touchpad has a faster processor, twice the ram, and a slightly slower GPU. The hardware is cutting edge, the only problem lies with the poorly optimized OS.

My brother who has become an increasingly annoying Apple fanboy was laughing at the "crappy hardware since webos ran much faster on the ipad." It'll be nice to tell him to put that card back in the deck.
Yeah the problem is the software implementation not the hardware.

Skywaffles post pretty much sums up a comparison of the main hardware on both devices.

Add onto the fact these Snapdragon processors in the Touchpad are overclock friendly (true of all Snapdragon processors, they all OC well), that last part about the GPU might as well be favoring the Touchpad also when OC'd.

<--------Has his single core Snapdragon phone OC'd to 1.5ghz without issues.

Edit: Dammit skywaffles beat me to it.

Whats gcc?

Do I need shell access in order to load games for the NES emulator?

I'll have to check out uberkernal. Let me know if double space period every comes into your radar and I'll do the same. Found a couple posts requesting it, but thats it.
gcc is compiler stuff dont worry about it

I havent gotten to copying roms over yet but I would assume grabbing the sFTP package from preware will make it much easier

you can close the cards in landscape mode by bouncing them off the dock...

fwiw, after I installed preware and did all the optimization of it...it runs smooth.

That redsox game is playing, in real time, in card mode. and I was able to have mail, calendar, facebook, and spazhd all running at the same time as the browser playing a flash player MLB game. sure it wasn't HD, but it was pretty damn good.

I like the device, Webos may nto be awesome, but it works. so until ICS rolls out, I think I will be pretty happy with it.

Anyone curious about the route the Android developers are taking? What I read is they are going Gingerbread (either stock, CM7 or both), then Honeycomb, then Ice Cream Sandwich. With possibility they might skip over Honeycomb depending on where Ice Cream Sandwich stands at the time. At least this is what I read somewhere when this Android port thing was first started.

Now my question is why start with Gingerbread, isn't it tougher to port since its a phone OS where things would have to be resized and etc. I know when they ported Sense 3.0 to my device it was a pain because of the different resolution. I would think Honeycomb would be the easier port for a tablet.

The HP Touchpad has the potential to be the HD2 of tablets. I'm hearing things like Windows 8 might be able to run on it, mostly limited by the RAM. Of course thats all speculation. Remember reading about Meego and Ubuntu (posted in OP) running on it. If this occurs hell even just a successful Android port the device might be worth more than $100 on the market and hold its value well.

Thanks. I have now reduced my productivity to previously unseen lows... SNES + ROMS.

I really wanted NES for excitebike and mario, but it keeps getting hung up while installing in preware. Did you have any issues?

It will be just like Gingerbread running on the NOOK Color with the tablet tweaks.

Honeycomb is extremely difficult because Google hasn't released the source.

Android isn't resolution dependent, it's density dependent. Gingerbread would have no problem with the higher resolution.

Now that I know there are some good ways to make this thing not suck, I'm excited and hope they ship mine out soon.

For anyone interested, a guy on reddit picked up a TouchPad from best buy which lo and behold came with android on it from the factory. Hopefully the android devs can use this to speed up their development.

Just an FYI guys I just was toying with my 32gb Touchpad and have discovered that Amazon Video On Demand/Prime Videos works and runs rather well (SD haven't tried HD yet). Audio holds up well but it did take me using the pop out function on the player over full screen to get it to fill the screen and not go wacky/upside down and hang. I did have it hang slightly when first starting it up but pausing and allowing it to buffer allowed it to self correct.

True but it is a good way to stream over 10k TV shows and movies for free (if you have Prime) and even rent or buy newer content. Considering I doubt Netflix will hit this device anytime soon or at all and it's going to be cheaper than Amazon's upcoming tablet I'm glad to see it does work.

I'm with you, it's definitely a good thing. The last time I used it though, it didn't seem llike I could add titles to a queue, no good way of finding similar titles and they weren't even organized by genre.

I don't see why not. Netflix works on several phones that haven't been certified, and many Snapdragon based phones, which this thing greatly resembles.

Fake. Kinda. This was not bought at best buy. This is the video proof the Qualcomm guys posted to claim the $1500 porting prize

Hoping my amazon order goes through so I can start playing with it. Barnes and Noble cancelled my order 24 hours after the purchase

If anyone gets an extra they want to sell, let me know.

Not sure if it's been covered, but is anyone getting cases for theirs? I think I want one, but $50 from hp seems a bit much, and was thinking of trying an ebay one.

Amazon had some good deals for these yesterday, but they sold out. I'd check back there every day or two.

I'm thinking about one of those $10 case/stands. I initially wanted a Touchstone but they charge more slowly and there's no guarantee it will work with Android (there might be some kind of software controller for it).

Selling hundreds of thousands of devices almost overnight unexpectedly for a product line you no longer care about, might just be the cause of that.
