Also, in regards to the un-detailed foreground, you can try adding a little graduated ND filter to the bottom there to darken it a bit and perhaps bring out some definition.
ya know, the more side angled shots i snapped of this car just didnt seem right to me. (given the time of day and sun hitting the direct side) not only that, i had been shooting 1 shot raws the entire time, just CPLing the windshield. so as soon as i started moving over to the side, i started to see odd reflections that killed the shot for me.

i forget if i applied unsharp mask to this shot. i did apply to half of the set, but can't quite remember if i did this particular one. and i never even thought about the GND for the bottom portion, good thinking... learned something new yet again

Thanks for the tips duder

The graduated ND in particular can help add emphasis, in the same way as a little vignetting. For example, I added one top and bottom:

And an example that's more subtle:

Also nubsauce, you have a power line growing out of the top of the car, and the driver side is over-exposed. That 2010 water mark is too big and distracting, and I really think it takes away from the car when it's over-lapping the tire like that.

For example, my father took these photos with his Canon Powershot A630, and he's by no means a professional

P&S cameras definitely have their limitations, but that shouldn't stop you from learning how to use one to the fullest. For a lot of people, it's even hard for them to outgrow a P&S, especially since the newer ones these days come with so many options.

Saw this post and thought it should be bumped.

^ Not feeling that picture... A hot spot on driver's side fender, completely under-exposed side, Vin Diesel growing out of the car, the overall location, and an obnoxious signature.

What were the circumstances of his gear being stolen? From his house? From his car? While he was holding all of it?

Out of his house. He said homeowners insurance covered it, but he lost a lot of his passion after that. Major bummer.

So, I figure I'd post this here since this is Automotive related and some of the members could use the info. As some of you might know, I've been looking to get a Carbon Fiber boom for my car rig. Reason being it's stronger/sturdier than steel/aluminum and weighs practically nothing in comparison. I've sent out many inquiries to several places, but Adam from carbonfibertubeshop.com was the most helpful and knowledgable. Also, they have experience building automotive booms, see here (http://www.carbonfibertubeshop.com/b...ssemblies.html).

Basically, I'm getting (2) 5 foot sections 2.0" OD that are made to slide into each other. There are 2 options for securing them together, push pins or velcro (push pins are more expensive). This 10 foot boom weighs ONLY 2.6 pounds. Compare that to ~9 pounds for a 10 foot boom of Aluminum piping (next best alternative). That's a big difference, considering that all this weight plus around ~5 pounds of camera/lens will be attached and suspended on body panels/windows.

Now, the cost... that's pricey. 2 tubes, with inner ferrule tube (joins both together), prep and bond, and shipping all came to $616.59. This is quite a bit more expensive (about 3 times more expensive) as a longer, 15 foot Aluminum boom you can get from other places. However, the advantage of this kit is that you can mount it much closer to the edge of the car, since the weight is not much of a concern... so you make up a little for the lost length. And of course there are other options available as I discussed it with Adam, similar 15 foot CF boom would be upwards of a grand. And this is 2.0" in OD, I BELIEVE the Aluminum kits people are selling are only 1.5" in OD, correct me if I'm wrong.

BTW, I am in no way affiliated with carbonfibertubeshop.com nor am I getting a discount of any sort. Just wanted to share some of my research with fellow photogs.
